hello guys im relatively new to the forum and have been looking at all the stunning examples of FJ'S you have on here.

i am yet to take delivery of my lovely if not a little tatty fJ 1200 ABS. i got it at mates rates so very cheap and it already has aftermarket progressive springs up front, full krauser luggage, rentec crash bars, full neta motard system and a flip up tinted screen on the front.

she needs new fork seals and oil and a new battery to be road legal, but as i said shes very tatty and body work needs a respray.
so while i send the tank and panels etc off to be painted im thinking of doing some mods.

I want to run a vfr 800 of 750 single sided swingarm on the back. im also looking to do a 17inch car wheel with about a 240 tyre on there.......

now i know its not the lightest choice or best handling combination, but im no canyon carver anyway. i just like alot of tyre and im obsessed with vfr swingarms.

has anyone tryed fitting a vfr arm ??

also while its apart for paint im also going to clean the whole bike up and possibly give the frame some paint.  :good:

In deed, Welcome !!! If you do the conversion then start a thread and we can follow your progress. All I know is that it's been done before... As with any non stock project it will be a learning experience.
Fork seals and battery are easy fixes to get her road worthy. Do a good inspection if you are new to FJ's. Lots of information here on how to fix and modify. Questions are good.  :good2: :good2:

Welcome to the group.  :hi:

I have seen a few photos of FJ's with a VFR swingarm mod. I have noticed that all the bikes that I have seen with this mod are in Europe and one in the Middle East. I would like to see a write up on this mod.

I think the VFR swingarm is a neat modification but am not real sure how that wide 240 section rear tire is going to work only supported on one side.

they hold up really well bud puttin a car wheel on the back of a vfr arm is a really common mod in my circles lol and the vfr hubs have the same B.C.D as a old honda civic so getting wheels is easy then all u need is longer studs and and a spacer and then BAM wide ass single sided wheel setup   :D

Fred it will happen mate but not for a little while as i wanna use it for a while first. ive got a good few mods in mind like cameras in stead of mirrors to keep the lines looking sleek, swapping front indicator lenses for smoked ones so i blends with paint and running an orange angel eye around the headlight shell.   my goal with the swingarm is to get it all worked out off the bike so it will just bolt in. ive been told if i modify it im getting a kick in the gentleman parts. but if its a bolt in deal i can say its a customisation like extra

is that your bike benny? and may i say that looks brilliant..
Dont worry George ill make sure i post the refurb and mods up in as much detail as i can. if i leave anything out just ask me and if i know ill gladly tell you guys

And last but not least Thanks steve the funny thing is this is my least ambitious project. I have a scooter with a racing pit bike engine in and gears i built until i get my full licence, a Nsr 125 ive been converting into a supermoto including a vfr 400 arm fitted to the back and a vfr750 front setup( should be getting an er5 engine) a vfr 750 engine in a custom built frame i designed( welded by my mates firm)

oh and ive got my best mates vfr 400 ive been streetfightering with custom bodywork...

but of all these the fj is by far the one im most excited about and thank you so much to all of you for the warm welcome i have received  :D

warm regards

Mike, a 240 tyre is probably going to require the chain to run on the outside of the frame.......with the 180 rear tyre mod, it moves the chain quite close to the inside of the swingarm pivot area of the frame. Another inch - well there just ain't the room I'm afraid.

FJZ1 1200 - It'll do me just fine.

Sounds like they are moving the tire to the right side of bike with a spacer, off the center line.

If so, I'll bet that bike turns left like a motherfucker, although right turns, not so good.....

well theres been a development int the bike department and it goes like so:

my mate currently owns the bike and has it on a promise to me.
it used to belong to an extremely close brother of ours  who sadly died from a heart attack earlier in the year.
when he passed his daughter (only living relative) asked us to sort his funeral and belongings.
the fj was a bike he had bought to replace one we got as a group to to do up and sell and idea to to get some money behind us to start a business together. The reason being the bike we got first was a small gpz 600 and being a small bloke he had that for himself.

long story short our now deceased friend rented a garage out the back of my mates house. when he died my mate took it over so we could keep it and have somewhere for all his belongings after he passed away. well when our departed friend took the garage on he told us he pay six months up front which turns out he paid 2 and a half so now theres a debt on the garage so the fj has to be sold :( :(

BUT the story does not end there he has sold it to a close friend of ours for what i was going to pay on the agreement that as soon as I've done my full test i buy it off him at the same price he paid for it.
it was the only way we could get the money in time and assure the bike would stay within our inner circle of friends.
plus it means he will do the bits on it to make it road worthy so all good.

now to business. yes on the on the FJ i would need to run the chain on the outside of the frame but this wont be much of an issue the only major hurdle will be the sprocket is self once I've sorted that i can then make a bearing support so that it does not stress the output shaft bearings to much. I'm not a machinist but one of my best friends has his own mill and lathe and we have been working together making parts for years. i design and do all the belt and braces stuff then he machines it ( although now hes teaching me )

Also to some extent Kurt your correct we do use a spacer and some people still run with a slight offset.
one of my friends CBRRT as hes known around the web. ran one on a fireblade he streetfightered and with some spacing and offset front sprocket he managed to keep the wheel almost bang in the center.

any tyre on a bike from about 240 up does not like corners as you are dragging the tyre into the corner more than turning it. the trick is to break the arse away so its slides slightly or lean so you can lick the ground lol.

again thanks for all your comments guys and rest assured ill make the most of the time without the bike to get all my homework done and start gathering some parts..

warm regards
