I took two of my three sons and went to the moto gp races in Austin this past weekend. We went for all three days Friday practice, Sat. practice, qualifying and rookie cup race and Sunday's moto3,2 and gp races (second rookie cup race as well but we left after gp race). For those who have never been it is an experience. Moto3 and Moto2 were very competitive and both are very fast even the 250cc Moto 3 bikes make an ungodly sound with throtles  WFO and in a pack.  I have been to many many AMA and local club races even did a couple local club races myself. I saw ama at Daytona in '91 but nothing can compare to the sound and speed of the Moto GP machines. It makes me wish I had gone to them when the 500 cc 2 strokes were still being ridden. 180 + mph on the front straight and >211 mph on the back when you are only feet away is way cool and gives me a new respect fro those who are out there riding them. We all know it does not take much to twist a throttle but it takes cajones of steel to keep that throttle pinned and be able to brake and carry corner speeds to be competitive. To be at the inuagural race and see Mark Marquez win his first pole and moto gp race, he is the real deal even if though his bike is one of the best in the padock, in person will be neat if he has the career he should. Poor Cal Crutchlow came in 4th ahead by several places ahead of Rossi but as conflicts in scheduling occured the media times for interviews had Rossi and Crutchlow at the same time NO media showed up to interview Cal they were all in with Rossi. I thought that was disrespectfull for what he as a rider and the team accomplished this weekend. I do understand Rossi's a far bigger name/fan base etc. but I stll thought it was S***y to ignore him that way. I will try to post up some video I took when I get home apparently my boss has blocked youtube from our work computers :negative:

Life isn't about having the best, but about making the best of what you have...

Yes MOTOGP is the real deal. Went to the first ever MOTOGP night race in Qatar. It was difficult to watch them go by at full speed. And the noise is absolutely ear shredding. Also went to see the boys last summer at ASSEN in the Netherlands. 90,000 motorcycle enthusiasts. At one race. On real motorcycles. If ever you get the chance. You wont regret it.

Yes work I have yet to win the lottery so I have to work to keep my bikes and cars and family going. I would love to go to europe to follow F1 and moto gp for a season. My wife wants to go to a game in all the national league ballparks one year but both these dreams need to wait for the kids to get out of high school and college first. Just happy to have been able to scrape up enough money to get down there for a three day weekend. It is about a 3 hour drive from me to Austin. The Sunday after race traffic sucked the 3 hour drive from my house to the track Friday took 6 hours on Sunday. The Friday and Saturday drive and parking was nothing compared to the # of people who showed up just on Sunday. There were a decent # of bikes but not as many as I would have expected.

that was an amazing race for marquez..... cant believe fast freddie's record of youngest GP winner is trumped but i'm sure  Marc is a true talent that's going to be really fun to watch.... dragging elbow on a triple apex AND triple digit right hand corner was very impressive indeed.

Our TV coverage was cut before the presentation and rider interviews.  Did they happen to have Fast Freddy present the trophy to Marquez?  That would have been great theatre IMO.
Shaping up to be a very interesting season. :-)
