G'day,

Has anyone come across clip ons from another bike model that can be bolted onto the FJ1100, but angled rearward?  I did a search and only found a conversion kit to older style handlebars, surely there a clip ons from another model bike that enable us to lean back a little?

cheers, Gareth

I have not heard of any other makes and models clip-ons that are compatable with the FJ. I have these on my bike and a few others do also. They raise the stock clip-ons about 3/4".

I have found these aftermarket handle bars that are adjustable. I have thought about trying these.

Gareth,

Depending on how much you want to change the angle, you could either "slot" the 5mm locating screw hole in the clip-on, OR make a Z bracket between the upper triple and the clip-on.
As long as your triple clamp bolts are tight and the clip-on clamp bolts are tight, this locating screw is not really necessary.  In my opinion, it is there to protect Yamaha from liability claims arising from lack of maintenance.

Note: racing clip-ons don't have this locating screw, just the clamp bolts.

Those are interesting Fred.  Please try them and let me know how it goes.   Pictures would be helpful also.  :-)

I installed the GenMar risers as well, and found that the throttle cables, brake and clutch lines, etc had just enough slack to reach, so it worked out fine.

I think one would have to start looking at replacing all cables and lines if the bars were any higher.  ??   And if they go much higher than the GenMar's they would have to be angled back to clear the fairing, making a need for even longer cables and lines.

Hello,

Thanks for the quick replies, I had a look at the ebay links, bugger me!  The prices are high!  I was hoping for a cheap part off another old bike.  otherwise I may have to fabricate one up with stainless steel.

Arnie, I like the idea, but I am wanting to keep the clip-on angle, just move it towards me about two inches.  This will let me sit more upright.

cheers, Gareth

Hello Gareth, is this closer to what your looking for?
In this pic, you can flip around  the upper risers to get even more offset.
Here is the sellers page and info. Scroll towards bottom of page.

Here is another option. With this adaptor the choice of a tubular handle bar could give you the desired position.

G'day,

Thanks for the quick replies, the tarozzi ones look the closest to what I would be after, but at $200 I might have to keep looking, wreckers must have something that would fit!?  But at least now I know what to ask for, "riser clip-on's"

The conversion kit looks interesting, but looks like I may be spending alot of money before I got what I was after.  As you can probably tell, i am a real tight arse!

Thanks for the help guys,

gareth

Gareth,

In the past day or two, someone mentioned that XJ600 (not sure of model) upper triple would fit the FJ and that it has risers and clamps for a normal 7/8" (22mm) tubular handlebar.
WA also used FJs for cop bikes a while ago that had a triple with bar mounts.
If you fitted one of these, all you'd next need to do would be to find a bar that was to your liking for height, width, and pull back.

OK, here is what I have. Looks strange but it works for me right now until I figure out what I am going to do for a front end. I am not recommending anyone do it, it's just what I did until I figure out what I want in the end. The bar's are standard 7/8 and the clamps are off an old Husky........ I like the looks of those clip ons recommended by Antonn3. Also the XJ600 deal that Arnie posted is worth a good look.

George,

The bolts you have mounted the plate to the triple.... why not just bolt bar risers there (since you've already drilled the triple and then choose your bars to suit?

It just prototyped / evolved that way. I couldn't find bars with the set back I was trying to get. The bars are at max set back now without building or locating longer throttle cables. It is farm engineering, I just sat on it and said here is where I think the bars should be... And did what it took to put them there as a test and that's where I stopped. I am still not exactly happy with the position. wish it had a bit more pull back.
I don't want to do anything more to it until I figure out the next mod evolution with the front end. If I keep the forks that are on it I will install a better looking system.
Also part of why I did it was because the PO said he would keep the bike if the bars were set back. I said it could be done. He scoffed and said no it couldn't be done. I bought the bike and a week later paid him a visit....... Just the way I am  I love the bike.....

Thanks for the tip!  I have some ideas to work with, and I like the look of the below photos, looks pretty good too.

Well I will throw a log on the fire. My good friend has a 1990  and it has steel clip ons that are identical to the factory FJ's but are a full inch higher than a stock set. Also they are set back on  different angle than the factory ones. Unfortunately neither he nor the previous owner have a clue as to their origin. It is amazing how much of a difference they make. Now the fun begins trying to locate these. They are not home made, they look exactly like stock FJ parts but are not.  I will check them closely to see if they have a Yamaha part number on them somewhere.

Sounds like Heli Bars... they'd take stock FJ bars, cut them in two and add material.

No longer available.
