Stay rubber side down.

X-Ray

That looks like too much fun, especially the night bit.
Of course that would have been done in a county where there are no draconian OH&S laws to protect people from having fun etc........

I think it`s off the XJ750 (though the head finns don`t look right, but hard to see). It had 76hp in 1981 but 82hp by 1983 apparently. This rail car obviously has chinese HID lighting, but interestingly the model was the first with anti dive brakes as demonstrated in the clip.

fintip

That's definitely an XJ engine, but I'd wager that it's a 650, because those look more like the Hitachi carbs than the Mikunis, as far as I can tell (see the 1:59 mark). The fins and the head look just right to me, that's a YICS valve cover, painted just like the XJ's were.

It is very hard to tell just the engines apart by eyeballing them, though. The 550/650/750 all look almost identical. Only the 650's used Hitachi carbs, however. Given that it's a YICS, you know it's an '82 or an '83--the '81 had a (slightly) different valve cover on top that led to you having 20 screws to undo to do valve adjustments instead of 8 as in later years.

(The Mikuni carb bowls looked 'rounder' on the float bowls, the hitachis looked more flat bottomed.)

Not everyone understands what a completely rational process this maintenance of a motorcycle is. They think it's some kind of a knack or some kind of affinity for machines in operation. They are right, but the knack is almost purely a process of reason.

That would also explain the 70HP headline. Thanks.
