I would go with the manual petcock.(available @RPM) I have Randy's pods on mine don't know if it'll work with stock air box? To access it you just have to remove the top black screen on your side panel

My petcock was leaking too and I wasn't going to spend a couple of hundred dollars for a petcock for a $1,000 bike. I went to Lowes and AutoZone and got a $10.00 fuel shutoff valve and some fuel line and just plumbed it so that the little red shutoff knob sticks out one of the side cover vents.

Pretty "redneck" and maybe not suitable for a nice, clean FJ,,,,, but for my semi-ratty FJ, it works really well.

Left side, behind the side cover.... It bolts to the bottom of the tank, has lever on it. It is NOT visible with the cover on...

I looked there, but nothing, There is a square plastic thing on the end of the petcock, But cant move, I found and inline fuel shut off at a local bike shop that works well, thanks for the info

Upgrade to the 84/85 petcock, it has an off/run/prime valve. On the Run position it still shuts the fuel off when vacuum stops (engine stops). And it removes the quasi reserve function of the 86/87 that us old school guys don't need....
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

when you say 84/85 is that year model?, I would rather have the petcock with a valve than the inline I got

Yes he is talking about the 84 or 85 FJ fuel petcock. Both years use the same valve.

okies time out for some education, I thought that there were only two types, the prefect one in the mighty 3xw and the vacuum one in the poor little 3cv ().

now monkey tells me (and I always listen to him) there is a third style  :unknown:

Could somebody explain the difference between the  "84/85 petcock, it has an off/run/prime valve" and the "quasi reserve function of the 86/87"

The 84/85 are old school with the vacuum function working in the "On' position. The 86/87 has no manual valve to set it. It is internally set to the "On" position and has the vacuum function. It has an additional part that is wired into the bike, when the fuel is low enough it cuts the fuel off acting like the really old school tanks with the reserve function. By switching the FJ reserve switch located on the left side vent, the last of the fuel will flow till the tank is dry.

Here are all three FJ1100/1200 petcocks:

84-85 Petcock
86-88 Petcock
89-93+ Petcock

The first two petcocks are interchangeable but the late model 89-93+ petcock will not bolt to the tank. The 89-93+ petcock is also just a mechanical petcock for use with the fuel pump which acts as the fuel shutoff when not energized. You can close the petcock when the tank is removed and that is the only function of that petcock.

The first two petcocks use vacuum to open the petcock and allow fuel flow to the carbs. The early model does have a "PRI" or prime function as well. The 86-88 petcock has an electronic reserve function to prevent running the tank dry.

3CV has a fuel pump, NO vacuum-operated petcock. It has a small petcock with an 8mm square valve for tank removal....
