92 FJ Front ABS Discs needed - a lesson in dealer expertise

Anyone have a straight set of 92 FJ ABS front discs for sale?

Some of you may have already had this happen to you.  For others, a good lesson to heed.

I am in the midst of an imbroglio with a dealer regarding my ABS  discs.  I had ordered a set of OEM's last month at what I thought was a good price - $199 ea.  The bike was in storage out of town and my usual mechanic was unable to to take it in until this week, (yes I know I could have done it myself last month - outside in 2ft of snow as the tools freeze to my hands - but I'm a wimp.)  I brought it to him yesterday and he gives me a call today - can you guess why?  The dealer ordered me a standard set, even though I asked them to double check before I took possession of them to make sure, because I didn't want this to happen.   :dash2:

How could something so simple get screwed up?  After bringing them back (and after much confusion and furrowed brows   :scratch_one-s_head: ), they discover when they looked up the parts list for a 92 on the computer, it doesn't differentiate between a standard or ABS version. The expert that ordered them assumed they were the right ones.  Further investigation today showed the 93 model does show a difference for some reason.  They had to dust off a form of documentation akin to ancient Egyptian Papyrus called micro-fiche.  There they found that indeed a 92 FJ comes equipped with ABS discs.   :shok:

Unfortunately, I have never had the discs off since I bought it in '07 so couldn't tell the difference when I picked them up (hey-but nor could they!).  ABS discs I have since discovered have a larger diameter hub spacing to accept the toothed gearing on the hub. But Yamaha still carries OEM ABS discs for...  $397.78 EACH!  Where is the exploding head emoticon?! They quoted me on some EBC's which were relatively the same price (by this time I had zoned out).  They did reimburse my VISA card even though I was just past the 30 day return policy, which is the only thing positive about this situation.

Oh yeah, I'm leaving for Austin, TX on Apr 14 for the Moto GP.  I just told my mechanic I will forgo the change and I will put up with the slight vibration for a while longer.  I'm just hoping my clutch inspection turns out OK.

Thank you, I feel much better now.   :good2:

Thanks for the offer, but I ended up buying these

Shipped from China door to door in 7 days.

I had a reply regarding these Chinese discs and they are getting positive reviews, even on other forums for GSXR's, VF's, Ninjas etc.

Haven't had a chance to to even test ride to break them in yet (and my new clutch) due to our monsoon weather - and freezing rain that's coming.

Leaving for Texas on Sunday morning - at 3degC - yeehaw as they say.  You should hop on and ride down too...   :good2:

Thanks again
