Hi everyone, this is my first membership of any site which has nothing to do with sex, and i,m a little nervous,i mean talking about anything, you know, technical, phew! It feels a little dirty at first, and when you get down to doing stuff, it really is, . Anyway,i,ve ordered a manual looked forlornly at my completely inadequate toolbox( ahem),and started by replacing a rather tired petrol pipe , which slipped off as i tried to remove the tank , which is when i discovered that the petrol tapsitting unobtrusively under the lip of the tank, actually serves no purpose whatsover in stopping the flow of fuel from the tank.!Its either on , or the tank is empty.Heh heh, try explaining that to the neighbours who as their walking by, appear to be sniffing the air, like a rattlesnake does with its forked tongue, scenting the proximity of prey. The responses i can report ,are remarkably similar. Anyway stuff i have yet to do are replace a kinked and worn throttle cable, which has been routed so that the headlamp bracket and the right side fork tube converge and squash it. The bike has after market handlebars. which appear to be renthal off road items , so i may , so to speak , come up short, in the ,er, length of cable ( wink) required for the job.Talk about performance anxiety!Next is the fitting of a replacement back wheel, as the existing disc is warped due to some bungled attempt to remove a disc lock in order t steal the bike. third will be to address the chain rattle which doesnt appear to be too bad , heard mostle at start up and occasionally when pulling away in first gear.Tyre choice also seems to be a topic to discuss, or should i say limited tyre choice, either you wear them or you dont.( no wink there,i,m serious). All this on a budget of cornflour and oats. I,m not looking for much really.

Welcome to the forum. Don't get over whelmed with fixing everything at once just take one system at a time. When you get some time post a picture of your bike. Where are you located ? There might have a member close to you. What year is your bike ? This will help us to help you. If you have Renthal bars on the you might have a different set of forks on which could be good. A chain rattle can be normal. They all make a little noise. Best to ride it for a while and get use to the new sounds. Have faith, you are in the right place here. Lots of help and experience from all over the world.  :good2:

Life isn't about having the best, but about making the best of what you have...

Welcome mate, this forum is like a digital campfire, quite informal and mostly respectful (mostly....). What year FJ do you have? There are so many experienced members her we can help you solve nearly any issue you need to fix. Beginning with your fuel tap, you really need to fix it. Bad enough to leak fuel on a cold parked bike, but on a running bike.... We have lost a few that way. Please make that a top priority of repairs. Most of the common issues have been discussed so use the search function first. If you can't find what you need then ask. You might also find a member or two near you to help with advice and to get some rides in. Kooaloo.

Hello and welcome,  :hi:

Looks like you have a lot to sort out there. May I recommend as a 1st mod to ugrade the rear wheel with a GSXR 17" rear wheel. Then you will have too much choice of rear tires. It's easy to do and there are many write ups in the files section. But that should come after you get your fuel issue resolved. What the Monkey said about running bikes and leaking fuel and all.

Also, as a 1st thing to do is any rubber brake hoses should be replaced with steel braided lines as soon as possible. 25yr old rubber brake lines are kinda crazy to trust you life to.

Welcome again,

CraigO
