Good day all. This is my first post, bought my 1991 FJ1200 3XW 2 years ago. Was lucky enough to get it with only 15 000km on the clock. Now sitting on 45 000km and the last year has seen the oil light come on intermittently, mostly under acceleration but not always. I change the oil regularly. Oil level is normal. Any thoughts. Regards Andrew

Harvy

Andrew - this is not unusual even with oil at the mark in the window. Hard acceleration (especially uphill) will do it......its simply that the oil level sensor is at the front of the motor. If you are changing oil regularly and keeping it at the level in the sight window, all is good!

Welcome here...... the three or four other SA members will make themselves known to you I'm sure.

Yep, Harvy is spot on with this one. I was a bit worried about this as well when I first got my FJ, especially while sitting at the stop lights pointing up a hill. I now fill mine to the top of the sight glass, no more probs.

Harvey and Ray are right but may not have pointed out that it is an oil LEVEL light, not an oil PRESSURE light.

Welcome Andrew. Some great Wines down your way. (My son-in-law`s parents own a vineyard in Nuri). Yeah my first FJ scared the hell out of me when I first seen that oil light come on. Still got that FJ and it`s never happened again - just topped the oil level correctly at the first oil change.

I always thort it was the "wheelie" light

I take something for it.

Thanks guys for such a quick response and the great welcome, much appreciated. I watch the BBC's "Worlds Greatest Motor Cycle" rides by Henry Cole and I have put Australia and USA down on my wish list. How do you guys find getting spares for the FJ. Regards Andrew

Andrew, we have our very own Yamaha dealer here on the forum - name is Randy and his website is www.rpmracingca.com

If Randy can't get a part for you, its made of unobtainium and no other supplier can get it for you either.
He is based in California and his service is second to none, as is his knowledge  of the FJ, particularly the motor (being a Legends car builder and racer).

Cheers

Same question has now been answered, thanks ya'll

I noticed it was coming on more and more on my last ride so I did stop and top off the oil, but before that it was mainly when I started while going up hills, which I figured was just the placement but I came in here to check and sure enough, it's been answered.

It is common to see the oil light come on during hard acceleration . This indicates your fj is running good. :good2:

Hy Andrew, when the red Oil Lamp burn on and on..then you should think to stop your FJ.
I see that is a World Wide Problem with our old Lady´s.Here in many german forum´s came the same question every week.

Good Morning All

Some feed back on my oil light issue. Topped up my oil to go above line to just fill the window, took the bike out last Thursday did about 100km with no problems not even a flicker. Up hill down hill and some hard accelleration nothing, thanks again guys for all your advice. Regards Andrew
