My first true ride on my fj

I bought my fj at he end of last year before monsoon season hit  here in seattle. Basicall only had a couple quick 1/2 jr jaunts before i was escaping a snow or rain storm. Took it out sunday for a good 6 hour ride. Finally. Love the thing.

This is funny though. Comimg out of a town and going down a two lane highway four harley dudes go blowing by me and my buddy on his v strom making a totally dangerous pass on blind corners. Within a couple inches, i was like...you effing d-bags...then noticed they where hells angels. I was like oh crap. Then to my shigrin i noticed there was like 50 more behind me. So basically i was stuck in this pack of harely dudes/hells angels guys for like 8 long long miles.

I made the mistake of moving over to let some pass. Big mistake. That just made them more aggressive and brush up even closer as they passed. So i was stuck right smack in the middle of them till the next town.

I grew up racin mx and riding offroad so street is totally new to me. Quite the break in for my first true street ride ever.lol

It was one of those really fast, winedy, heavy traffic type roads with no shoulder whatsoever. You know the type...oncoming cars every second and stuff coming at you really really fast. Thats why it was the next town till we could truely safely pull over.

Glad you got a chance to enjoy riding your FJ.

I think the word "posers" refers to people who are "posing" as someone else - in other words, pretending to be something they're not.  For instance, suburban fair-weather cruiser riders pretending to be biker-gang types can be "posers."   But when actual Hell's Angels are riding their motorcycles together, I'm not sure "posing" is really what they're doing.  They're not pretending to be anything they're not, they're out there BEING THAT ACTUAL THING.

Now, if those same Hell's Angels had sat down in the same fancy restaurant as you at dinner that night and pretended to know more about fine dining than they obviously knew, making a big show of sending back wine that was actually perfectly good, complaining loudly that their chateaubriand was overcooked when it was visibly rare, and bitching about how the creme brulee was nowhere nearly as good as the creme brulee at L'Astrance, "...but then again EVERYTHING tastes better in Paris, don't you agree?" THEN you could call them "posers."

Since motorcycles are single-track vehicles, you can sometimes move to the right and slow down, wave 'em by, and leave enough room for another cycle to pass you without crossing the centerline.  (You should watch me sometime for pointers, I'm so good at this part that I sometimes let 80 faster riders pass me in the twisties without even trying!)  If you make it easy for riders to pass you, they usually leave a courteous amount of room.  Frankly, if someone is holding up a bunch of us and doesn't bother giving us the courteousy of making it a little easier to pass by leaving room in our lane, I might not bother giving them the courtesy of leaving an amount of room that makes them comfortable when I eventually do make my pass.

Enjoy your bike!

:hi: Why should he?? You did the right thing given the circumstance...don't be an a$$ hole, show no fear and enjoy the ride/experience. You get more respect this way than hiding.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely, in an attractive & well preserved body...but rather to slide in sideways, body completely worn out and and with your last dying breath screaming, "HOOOYA LIFE, lets try that again"!!!

After you become a little more comfortable on the road and with your bike I expect you to report back next time this happens and tell us you gave them the finger then dropped it back a couple of gears and disappeared over the horizon.

...and hope they don't remember your plate number.

My oldest brother was an outlaw biker. I know first hand you dont mess with these guys at all. He told me once he gave someone a beat down for simply parking to close to his bike. Thankfully hes back in prison and I really dont know him all that well. Those guys are crazy and scare the bajesus out of me

the only reason i mentioned pulling over and letting them by was because it was his FIRST RIDE on the FJ... no pont in mixing it up with the bad boys if you dont even know what your machine is capable of.

i cant even begin to tell you how many harleys have been passed (and left in the dust) during a typical FJ rally!.....they are not good in the twisties at all.... :good2:

In all seriousness, you are right about staying well clear of those guys and they do have connections. Only last year here a car rebirthing racket was uncovered involving bikie gangs and Govt. workers inside the Registration Branch (motor vehicles). They would have your name and address within minutes.

Even allowing for some embellishment by the media, these guys are seriously bad.

Once familiar with the FJ and road riding the chance of a Harley acually catching up with you again is highly unlikely.

Most of them aren't much chop in a straight line either...

moonrunnah

around here the posers are the young guys on harleys thinking they are bad a$$ not waving (or respecting other riders) i was taught on an old jap bike by harley riders to wave to on passing bikes regaurdless of what they are on or who they are, i get most waves/ respect from hells angles and veitnom vets then anyone else and they dont try to pass me, they respect anyone on bikes (except for the posers)

just my 2 cents  :mail1:
When in doubt throttle out

I get fobbed off the most by scoot riders, elitist bastards!
Mind you, I wave at anyone, any type of bike, hell I will even wave at old ladies pushing shopping trolleys.  :greeting:
