MOD fever

OK there I was just trying to get though winter without getting the flu or a cold and it happened.... I slipped and got "MOD" fever. I knew it was out there but I tried to keep my mind clear of the costly thoughts and actions of MOD fever. Then up in front of me spied a 93 GXSR 750 Periwinkle/Purple rear wheel with spacers and drive hub. Damn....

MOD fever appears to start in the eye's then takes bodily control of your brain and lastly your motor control nerves. Uncontrollably pushing that "Buy" button on your computer without any self control. Turning one into a MOD zombie. And once you push that first button you have to keep seeking and pushing. I called the owner of said wheel thinking I might be able to find some reason to suppress or wait out this MOD fever. It just got worse.

So now I have pink stripes and a periwinkle wheel. Please be careful what you look at during these winter nights less you get MOD fever.

Now I find myself on Fleabay looking at page after page hours on end of GXSR brake calibers, caliper mounts, rotors, sprockets. Geez.....  I don't think the MOD fever will break until I have all the GSXR wheel parts in the same box. But then there is tire, rotor, sprocket, brake pads. Will it ever end ?

There should be a lobbying effort to get MOD fever covered under the new health care plan. It would certain improve my health.  :hang1:

But, beware, I'm pretty sure MOD fever is just the beginning of full blown "moditis" -- a very well documented condition effecting many here. Of course there are some peculiar and lesser known or understood strains that include a few very sick individuals with a polishing sickness...

Here is a 38 tooth sprocket. Stock GSXR sprocket is 43 teeth.

The old saying that I grew up with is..... Feed a fever and starve a cold. He states the he has "Mod Fever"..... So showing a treat may help.... :crazy:

Ask the seller if he has the whole wheel pack w/ brake parts and torque arm. All the bits from the same bike will make you're life a lot easier. It's what I did and got a great deal buying it all from one person in one nice tidy package.

The MOD fever is still running high but hasn't got to the full up Motitis point yet. I would define that as 3 or more mods, the inability to sleep at night and a strange muscular tick every time you walk by a bit of polish or something bright and shinny flashes in front you.

I got all the parts he had that went to that wheel. Unfortunately most if not all the sellers are parting them out a piece at a time now. I  feel that I got the most critical matching parts, the matching hub drive hub and the 3 spacers. He didn't have the brake bracket or caliper but I think I have that sorted out at least in my head..... (small head, lack of RAM, no storage and running a MODS fever)

The correct caliper mounting bracket is more difficult to find but they are around, just not cheap as I would like. For those that follow: the caliper seems to be the same as used on the 99 and newer GSXR's up to around 05 or so. They are plentiful on fleabay. But cross reference it on a Suzuki parts WEB site first as I am still going through the learning process. I located a few complete correct caliper mount and caliper units. The finger is twitching on the "BUY Now" button. (part of the fever).
I didn't need the rotor or sprocket because I wanted to put new ones on anyhow. The sprocket you should change because of the tooth count. I am planning on a 39 tooth unit. Another note to those that follow: the sprocket needs to be off a GSXR 750 to match the 530 chain. I am told the 1100 units are 532 chain size?

I notice that the used parts in the 88 - 98 era seem to be in the early stages of drying up with a poor selection of quality used items. Lots of it is down right junk. Good used rims for this conversion are mixed in with a bunch of junk rims on fleabay. Shop carefully. I estimate the full in with new tire cost of this conversion will be 4 - 5 hundred dollars for those that want to know. Guess its cheaper than going to the doctor for this fever.

A lot of the wheels on fleabay are stripped down so you don't have much choice at times but to shop for parts and pieces. All the misc parts to make the wheel complete will cost as much as the wheel.
I owe a lot of thanks to the fine write ups in the forum and in the files section on this GSXR wheel conversion. Thank you !! With luck maybe the new wheel will be on by this spring and the MODs fever will give way to actually riding.....
