Hi all,

This is my 1st post. I have a 90 FJ1200. I need to replace the battery and wondered if anybody can advise of a suitable brand etc.
Any help would be much appreciated,
thanks
Jim

Yuasa. The original one in my Honda VFR lasted seven years. I actually replaced it too early when I thought it went bad. Turned out to be the voltage regulator instead.

Randy at RPM has them.

Welcome Jim, many members here have been very happy with Randy at RPM. He and his wife have each have 86' FJs, he and his sons race legends cars, rather well I might add. And he builds legends cars and the FJ engines that power them. Since he has soooo much time on his hands he is also a Yamaha dealer for parts, he develops performance enhancers for his cars and FJ bikes like his fork valves and hopefully soon is rear shock. Check out his web site at www.rpmracingca.com. Randy is also a member and regular contributor here and offers help and advise to members. Very handy to have on hand at rallies and fun to chat with around rally camp fires. Can you tell that Randy is my first choice when I need stuff for my FJ?

WOW that was quick!

Thanks guys, I should mention that I am in Brisbane, Australia so unfortunately not close to RPM - I just checked them out online though and looks like a handy site. Thank you again guys for your advice, I will take it and get me a new Yuasa today. Much appreciated

cheers from 'Downunder'

IMO, these days the brand of the battery means less than the type it is, YMMV.

You get what you pay for.

The conventional type are cheap, but on an FJ you constantly have to watch the electrolyte level, and they don't last very long.

The AGM type cost a bit more, but hold a charge with very little maintenance, and the life is much longer.

The lithium-ion type are expensive, and need special care (specific charger, don't run them all the way down, etc.), but by all accounts give great performance.

:hi: Welcome Jim. I found the new Shorai Battery fantastic. (and yep RPM has them). Take a look for yourself at my place Sunday January 20th on the Sunshine Coast. We`ll have a lot of stuff from RPM there, along with a few like minded souls playin in tha shed, Bike Mags, Coffee etc.

If you`ve seen the thread (go to "Down Under" topics) you`ll see more details. I`ll send you a PM or email for the address details.

Shit`d be great ta meet ya there.  Doug

Jim,

Be careful about the which side is the positive on the battery. I found out the hard way that the earlier FJs had the poles switched from my 1990.

If you decide to go with the Motobatt AGM it has 2 Pos and 2 Neg terminal posts so will fit either lead configuration.  Pete.
