If a warm FJ stands alone in the woods and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?

If so, is it singing?

If it's singing, is it happy?

Discuss.

Hmmm... Ok.....I'll give it a shot....

The fj does make a sound.Being in a forest suggests atmosphere, the conduit required for the transference of sound waves. The fj being warm suggests a temperature differential to the ambient temperature. This would imply at least some slight creaking as the bike cools.Animals, birds and some would suggest even plants are sensitive to sound waves.
The bike being left in the woods suggests its not happy, singing or not.If the owner was a forum member then the bike would not be left alone in the woods.
Singing might also suggests its not happy. The owner is unlikely to be a forum member and has not performed a  flapectomy!

Or maybe the owner just went to take a dump......

Nahhh...It`s about time and space. It`s called tha theory of relativity...bit too deep for me, but in tha back of my mind there is a write up here on tha forum somewhere. ...In theory it could happen and yes there would be a conduit of sound...like if ya took the fj instead of tha DR cause ya had a hangover.

What sort of heartless bastard are you anyway? To even contemplate abandoning your FJ, all alone, in the woods.
It wouldn't be singing, it would be crying, for bitumen and no doubt confused by its environment.

Hey, it's winter, several inches of snow on the ground why not? Stolen and edited without permission from the bowels of the web...

Frequently asked questions about life, FJ's, reality and meaning.

The question is intriguing because it involves the conundrum of whether there is such a thing as 'objective reality', independent of human observation. Sound is subjective, so you might conclude that if no one is nearby, there can be no sound. But what if someone has passed nearby and left sound-recording equipment? What if there are birds nearby? What exactly is sound? – elephants can hear with their feet! What if someone hears the sound but is too preoccupied to notice it?
We live on the assumption that reality exists; it seems like madness to assume otherwise. When you leave a room, you don't assume that its contents cease to exist just because you can no longer see them. Yet your sole experience of those contents comes through your senses, and your knowledge of them is a collection of images based on past experience. So in this sense the world that you think exists 'out there' is a world that you have imagined, and are constantly re-imagining, into existence.
Is there a forest? Is there an FJ ? Or does the word 'FJ' confer a spurious 'existence' on what is actually an inextricable part of a vast, mysterious movement, a movement that thought cannot comprehend or grasp? Even when you are in a 'forest' looking at an 'FJ', your mind is unconsciously filtering out everything that doesn't conform to its immediate agenda ('riding') and to its limited preconceptions ('parts!').
You can think about the question as much as you like, and come up with any response you like – 'Of course there is sound', 'No, there is no sound', 'It depends on what you mean by sound'. But these responses are all in the world of idea, of mind. So no amount of thinking can answer the question. You can't imagine your way out of the world of imagination.
Is there a world, a reality – call it what you like – beyond the limited sphere of our experience, senses and ideas? The question cannot be answered by thought; it can only be answered by awakening from thought. This implies becoming aware of the activities and limitations of our thinking, and of the stillness that comes when thought is quiet.

Can't wait till spring. Wait, if Spring comes in the middle of the woods and.......

No it is not happy, it wants you to perform the fuel cap flapectomy. It is more of a whine than a song and yes it is making noise whether you can hear it or not...

Pull those check valves and it will never whine again, whether in the forest or your garage.

As far as solving the canundrum of "Objective Reality"; Always remember and never forget, where ever you go there you are and Reality is realy just a figment of your imagination caused by the lack of alcohol! or in the case of this forum, Kookalooo! you choose.

Analyze that...

I see I am not alone in the winter woods of life. Disoriented, confused, cold, dark , dreary, runny nose, numb fingers and toes, FJ tires frozen to the ground, Need I say more about winter.... The FJ is probably telling me that "I will get even with you next spring for setting me out here you SOB"...

Hammer's.   Give a man a hammer and everything looks like a nail. I have a lot of nails to deal with... :wacko1:

yes it makes a noise , a gentle whisper that says "ride me , lets go , I'll show you a good time."

while taking down the Christmas lights my fj glared at me while it sat in the garage and I could hear the whisper of "the sun is out , lets go."

it was quite hypnotic and I obeyed.
