bought a set of hid lights for my 1984 fj1100.  got it, very easy installation, plugged everythinng in as per instructions AND when you turn the lights on, the low beam goes on for about 1-2 seconds and then shuts off.  high beam works fine.  is there something special i need to do to install this type of light onto my bike because it is so old?  if anyone out there could offer any suggestions, please help.

thanks

Welcome Jenray2, what kit did you use? Did you power it direct to the battery? If you are getting power from the OEM lamp plug then you may have a low voltage issue. I have a DDM lit with zero issues. Tell us more about your kit and how it installs.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Hi, thanks for getting back to me.  I took a bunch of pictures of the whole kit and the name of the company I got it from.  I really appreciate you trying to help me out.  As you can see from the picture I am sending of my bike, that I am very mechanically inclined.  I have totally restored my FJ, including paint!  I have turned every bolt and changed every seal so you think I would be able to figure this little light out.  I guess not.  Thanks for any suggestions.  well it appears I can not attach pictures here.  Can I send them to you via email or some other format?

Hi,

well, my wife figured out how to post them to my gallery/my images.  is this a place others can view these pictures or is it "private?"

Jenray2, I saw the pics in your gallery. I did not see any terminations that go to the battery. Does the HID system get all the power from the headlamp plug? If so then that is issue number one. HID systems need a good voltage supply and the FJ headlamp is known to suck... Search this site for performing the headlamp relay modification. This will allow the original switching between hi and lo beam and still provide full power from the battery.
