From Janie:

Steve checked out of rehab on Tuesday, 8/25 and was taken by ambulance to my cousin's home in Salem, VA.  We will be staying here until Thursday, 9/3 when he has follow-up visits with both the Ortho and Plastic Surgeon.  Our hopes are that Steve will be released into the care of our doctor in NC and also that he will be permitted to lower his right leg and travel in a car back to our home.  We look forward to Thursday.  Steve will not be able to use crutches until his broken right arm mends, so he will remain quite immobile for some time now.  Right now he is recuperating and trying to regain his strength.  He's lost quite a bit of weight, but that's to be expected with the ordeal he's been through.  I've learned more about nursing than I ever wanted to know.  One of my new skills is giving injections of blood thinner daily!  I wince .... Steve laughs at me.

Steve's motorcycle buddies came to visit a couple of weeks ago and talked to Steve about the accident.  Steve has no memory of the event itself, just the time leading up to the crash and then waking in the hospital.  I'm not sure he remembers us all coming to the hospital that night either.  Time .........

Our friends in Louisburg are taking care of the house, property and our cat business while we're away.  This past weekend they installed a wheelchair ramp on our front porch which is a great relief for us.  My sister said they even spent 7 hours this past Sunday Bush Hogging the fields on our property.  Over and above the call of duty and just truly great friends.  We have a lot of those and this misfortune has shown us that for sure.  My cousin, Vera, has over extended herself in providing us a place to stay and meals during this entire time.  She and her husband, Mark, have been a true blessing.

We love you all and your cards, calls and kind words have been a great source of encouragement for us both.
We hope to return home next week ..........

Thank You ALL for everything,

Janie
