Hey guys just wanted to ask a question.A lot of people from what I have read like the 5.5 rim on there FJ.I bought a 4.5 by 18'' rim for my FJ for the soul perpose of handling. The FJ mod web sight said it made the FJ handle better than the bigger rim.I was just wondering on your thoughts about this. If anybody has put the 18'' rim on there FJ please let me know your thoughts about it.
THANKS BUDDY

As you probably know [and in my opinion] it's not the rim that's makes the difference, it's the tires you can put on the rim. I'm currently running a 160-70-18  DUNLOP Roadsmart tire and it definitely makes a difference in handling. With the 4.5 by 18'' rim there are several tire choices available and at least with the Roadsmart wheel the ride height and gear ratios seem to be the same due to the much lower profile of the modern tire. With a 17" rim even more tire choices are available although for my purposes the 18" selection is more than adequate.

Yeah I agree with Rich.  Although I put a 4.5x17" rim on my FJ a long time ago, the biggest difference in handling came from the low sidewall height.  I'm running a 160/60x17 and have sampled tires in this size from Bridgestone 056 & 020, Pirelli MTO4, and currently the Metzler M6.
With the 18" rim you probably won't need to add ride height, or at least won't need as much.

Cheers,
Arnie

Either 18 or 17 is an improvement over the stock 16. I have done both mods, and prefer the 17, mainly for tyre choice.
Ran with the 18 for a couple of years while gathering parts for the FZ1 swingarm/ 17 wheel. Have now been using 17 for about a year and a half.

FJZ1 1200 - It'll do me just fine.

You know, I saw the same statement on the FJ source your are talking about.  But, I think there is a difference in the spacer, and over all width, between the 17" and 18" rim.   I check all the parts numbers and there were some major differnces. But, it would be nice if it were a straight fit because the 18" rims are much less $$$.

Later.  :bye2:

YZF600 17s are on a certain well-known auction site for as low as $50... How much cheaper do you want?
