Disturbing accident

This is not new, but interesting.   Warning: This is not a pleasant site to look at.  I think I read that the only reason the semi driver knew there was a problem is because bike parts were passing him.        http://www.snopes.com/photos/accident/tulsacrash.asp    Also his riding buddy died in an accident a few weeks after.

I bet he was glad he didnt loose his (not sure what you call them as they arent really popular in the uk) doo-rag/bandana (see back left pocket of jeans.

I guess for the truck driver it must have made a change from having bugs stuck to the windshield!! or running over Deer.

I would love to know what search terms you used on google images to find this?

I cant believe he managed to loose both shoes and a sock.

Its one of those 'couldnt do that if you wanted to moments', i doubt you could recreate that with a huge hollywood budget and a highly trained stunt team.

I am sorry if I miss informed you? According to Snoops.com his buddy Devin Seigal was killed 5 days after Brandon's death. I have read two or three different versions of this accident. I also read in one report that he was going closer to 150mph but who really knows. It is just sad to see in any case no matter who died first or second.  When I occasionally see extremely aggressive riding I think of this and a few other avoidable accident's. Here was a young man and his buddy that traded a whole life of motorcycling fun and life's adventure's for a few moments of excitement. I am sure he thought he had it under control....... Ever been there? I have. I think most motorcyclist have.
In my old field of business we read accident reports not really to criticize  (sometimes its hard not to shake your head) but to learn and improve our skills. To remind us that things happen and to take care not to repeat a bad event endured by another, if avoidable.
About 40 years ago a motorcycling friend of mine said "anyone can go fast, you just get on and turn up the throttle, the faster you go in a straight line the more stable you become, its when things in front of you change that shit happens".  Stay safe and keep a eye out for the stuff in front of you. Looks like he forgot to use the single most important piece of safety gear, the 6 inches of soft gray stuff between his ears. At least the gear he had on was helpfull to the clean up crew, less pieces to pick up.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

I remember this accident. I live in Tulsa and this Hwy 169 is nerve-wracking enough to ride on in the daytime, at traffic speed, let alone in the middle of the night at more than double the speed limit. Entrance/exit ramps every mile with people doing "Crazy Ivans" left and right. I try to avoid it if possible. This guy has surely passed multitudes of cars riding wheelies well over the speed limit. The odds catch up... As I always tell myself, my riding daughter, and others: "this isn't a closed-course race track where they sweep the sand off every day. This is real life with real inattentive drivers and stray dogs, deer, skunks, possum, raccoons, turtles, kids, rocks, dropped boxes, trash cans, construction cones, and insane dumptruck drivers.....and sand-slicks and oil slicks that show up overnight. yadda yadda yadda...

Thats how I ride, race, and drive down the road. Everyone's a idiot till proven different. I learned that at 17 driving a fiberglass kit car.

Ouch. Using his rear view mirror's wouldn't have helped to much as he was going at 30 to 45 degrees (eye ball estimate) at an angle to the traffic. He would have had a good view of traffic in the first lane he departed from. "Checking six" with his head would have helped. Changing one lane at a time would have helped, he could have used his mirrors then. It doesn't look like he "jinked" in front of the truck but if he had taken a bit more time merging he might have heard the trucks horn. On the plus side it appears he used his signals, had a helmet on.... How many cars on the freeway do you see doing the same thing all the time. Got to make "there off ramp" or turn at all costs sometimes while on the cell phone..... You will get me going &*^*^^&...
