Thanks Klavdy. That takes me back a few years. I remember devouring all those test stories....
In '83, I almost bought a Honda 500 Interceptor but everyone was talking about this new old school Yamaha which was coming for '84.
I'm glad I waited.
A trip to the beach and a visit to Champion Motorcycles in Costa Mesa, and a blistering test ride down Newport Blvd on a new FJ sold me.

I remember my riding buddies commenting...."look at that huge back tire...." She's been very good to me over the years.

Thanks again amigo!

A trip to the beach and a visit to Champion Motorcycles in Costa Mesa,

Good old Champian Motorcycles in Costa Mesa, I did buy a brand new Interceptor 500 from them in 1986. In 10 years I had put 96,000 miles on it, along with logging miles on my 85 FJ and 84 Interceptor 1000. It finally grenaded the engine when a valve broke and killed a piston which in turn blew a hole through the cylinder wall. Half the horse power of the FJ, but still a blast to run Angeles Crest and Angeles Forrest.

I'm not the fastest FJ rider, I am 'half-fast', the fastest slow guy....

That was a great article. Saved that one. I think I saw the article before that one talking about how they were going to have this showdown.

Not everyone understands what a completely rational process this maintenance of a motorcycle is. They think it's some kind of a knack or some kind of affinity for machines in operation. They are right, but the knack is almost purely a process of reason.
