Front End Stand - What Do You Use?

Let's see if I can do pictures.

This is hopefully some shots of the frame stand that I made to stabilize the bike when working on the front end; forks, front wheel/tire, steering head bearings, etc.

Put bike on center stand and raise the front end until the rear tire is on the ground then slide the stand under the frame rails.  If you've raised the rear end with dogbones or a Penske, you might have to put a 2x4 or two under the centerstand to get the rear up farther.

And here is my GPS/Camera mount on the upper triple clamp:

I've had my 89 FJ1200 for 19 years, and have always dreaded working on the front end. I'm getting ready to service the front calipers (dragging a bit, expect it's a bit of corrosion in the bores), and need a better way to hold up the front end for things like this, tire changes, etc. I've done things I'm not proud of (2 scissor jacks, one under each fork leg, stacking wood under the engine while using the centerstand) and am seriously considering an actual front stand (unless someone has a better idea).

There are the two types, the pin type that lifts from the triple clamp steering stem (which I prefer the idea of) and the type that lifts from the bottom of the fork leg (which reminds me too much of my scissor jack/Jenga routine). Any experience and/or recommendations with either type?

What does anybody else use?

BTW, I have the SuperTrapp 4:1, so I can't use my under engine/frame type lift which works great on bikes with high exhausts and ATVs.

Thanx!

Good one Frank!  That's wax residue.  Dust from the wax job it just received.

Normally i use a under engine/frame lift. But when i need the front wheel of or the forks, i just put the bike on its central support and mount strops to the beams in my garage and attache them to the frame of the bike.  The front is hoisted just enough for the rear wheel to touch the floor and i have plenty of room to work on in the front.

Cheers
Ken
Whant to check out my photos on the bike??

I put my fj on its main stand on a flat floor, I use a sissor jack and a small bottle jack and I position these under the sqaure section frame
either side of the engine. Jack them up untll front wheel is just off the floorand thats it ,u can do any job on the front end in safety to u and machine
I dont like your set up ,its not stable , my little jacks havs u sections on them and they dont slip off the square section.

A very cheap front end stand for some work (lifts by the bottom of the forks), and a strongly anchored hook in the ceiling with a ratchet strap for some work.  A floor jack and a centerstand/rearstand for some work, also.

Having had to remove my center stand, I went for a "Pit Bull" pin type stand. I got tired of rigging the bike to the ceiling truss above my work area. It is extremely stable, but you will have to remove your horn and, of course, if you need to work on your triple tree it can't be used.
