Took a 200 mile ride today on the '87 FJ. Went with a couple of neighbors that were both on FZ1000's (an '09 and an '12).  The old "stealth fighter" didn't pretty damn good keeping up with the youngsters.  Did a little rollon test and the FJ and the 09 FZ were pretty much even. I kept up fine in the twisty (for Kansas anyway) stuff.  In the "zero to go-to-jail" speeds the poor old girl gave it a good try but couldn't match the new stuff. I got just under 45 mpg and the 09 got just under 42 mpg.

My '87 is kind of a "frankenbike" but really did great.  Now I just got to talk those guys into hitting the Ozarks next spring/summer.

Take some comfort in the fact the old girl has a faster 0-100 kph time (thanks largely to the gearing) than a Hyabusa, and surprisingly, many others.
The claimed time of 2.9 was not only achieved but occasionally bettered at press days and by magazine reviewers.

I still haven't figured out what you do with neck snapping acceleration between 200 and 300kph riding in the real world other than making You Tube clips (yawn) on Autobahns.
