There's no shortage of opinions on the Owners site.  An old buddy has got the ride bug again.... We rode together in the 80's...Me on the FJ, and he rode a Suzuki GS 1100.  He happenned upon a 2004 Honda ST 1100 with 30 K miles, and was intrigued.  Thought it might be priced right for good riding with the wife, or single.  Likes the built in saddles and touring style.
Can anyone lend an opinion... good or bad?  Any experience or personal knowledge would be appreciated.

Thanks, Craig

Seems like a real lack of info on this. You are asking if we can offer an opinion on what another rider might like with some light information on what they think they like. I would rather try cutting their hair over the phone...... Not wanting to be harsh but they would do better getting a log in and providing more info on what they want. Then we can banter back and forth and possibly help the bike-less rider....
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

He's asking for stories like "yeah, I had one and at 45,000mi the valvetrain decided that it wanted to support the war and turned itself into shrapnel" or such.

I've always though the ST's were a little light on the S and a little heavy on the T, but they'd be a great long-distance machine for someone who didn't want a full-dresser.

As far as the bike goes, the ST1100 (and likely the ST1300) is pretty bullet-proof. There's a guy here in London who has one with 500,000 km on it - he's one of those iron-butt rally guys. All he's done is regular maintenance on it. My brother has an ST1100 and loves it. That being said, I'm not a big fan of them myself - think they're top heavy, have too much plastic and most importantly, no soul! I am always bugging my one riding buddy who has an ST1300 that ST is built on the same chassis as the Accord and ST stands for Senior Transit, or Step Through. Of course he says that FJ stands for F-ing Jerk! Can't argue with that!

I've ridden with and on ST's.  They're a nice bike and surprisingly quick considering their bulk.
I didn't like the weight or very soft suspension, but those are the very things I also don't like about the FJ. I was able to change (at least) the suspension on the FJ, don't know what's available for the ST.  Certainly weighted more towards the touring end of  the S-T continuum.
Should be as or more reliable than the FJ.
