I found my oil leak, same on both sides, a little bit of impatience is going to cost me a lot of time and money, no kookaloo in my shed today

Ouch, thats rather nasty, , how did it happen ? May be able to have it welded,  tig perhaps

Bummer!
I had a hole in the crankcase of the Norton in my avatar shot, about the size of a 50cent piece, welded up.  I owned that bike for another 12 years.
Its a big hassle too, as you'll have to strip EVERYTHING out of the cases, bolt them together, and hope the welder is good, and that the cases don't warp.

I have a motor that the case was welded,  ran it 3 years before a catastrophic failure killed it
Just need to find yourself a good welder

my project 93 was nearly finished after many hours work,was doing the front engine mounts, they were seized solid the puller I had devised ran out of length before pins were out(3/4 ) so instead of modifying the puller I decided to give them a tap with a steel rod and hammer, paid for my impatience big time, will take the advice here and try find a good welder,Mark

Yes black is good,I'm onto another complete bike in Sydney supposed to have 53000 k , prob 153000 but should give me heaps of spares, even with 153 k cases should be ok

That can be welded, but it will have to be completely disassembled to do it. The crack is completely through both the upper & lower sealing surfaces. They will need to be finished once the welding is completed to allow for proper oil seal of the case halves and the barrel to the cases.

If you try and weld it in the bike assembled, you will have a bigger leak than you have now...

Thanks Randy sounds like good advice, I will either do that or there is a complete bike I may be able to buy that was laid on its side, what do you think of a temporary repair using one of the liquid steel products available, cheers Mark

You could try, but the amount of flex your are going to get out of those mounts will just cause that stuff to break away and you will be leaking. The only thing that might work is a silicone product that will remain flexible.

You also run the risk of one or the other breaking completely off as unfortunately they are cracked on the other side as well. It won't be cracked all the way through, but it is just cast aluminum...

My crack on the other side became obvious when I tried to clamp the boss back into position and it required welding on both sides.

Well I've never ridden an fj so I might squirt some silastic in there and ride it for couple of days, then I'll pull it down and fix it properly, will order some bearings and cam chain when I get it pulled down, thanks again Randy will shout you a couple of schooners next time I'm in States
