to replace or not to replace... that is the question. (Bearings)

I have an FJ1200 engine split down the middle and basically in as many parts as it started in at the factory. The thing is getting a complete overhauled.

So here is the question. The Crankshaft bearings have about 126000 miles on them. They have visible wear and I wanted to know if when replacing them if you have to do it in a set top and bottom, or of you could just replace the bottoms....

I am not an engine builder but that type of bearing needs to work as a mated pair. You might get away with mixing and matching, but if you are wrong the cases need to be split again. Replace them and know that with proper engine care you will be good for another 200K or more.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Yeah,

I guess that's the rub. I am kind of staggered at the expense of replacement journal bearings. I mean, to replace all 10 crankcase bearings at $18.22 per comes out to, wait let me work the math on that, uhh. $182.20. That's not even adding the connecting rod bearings. 8x$10.32= $82.56. So in total it's going to be $264.76 for bearings. That's 44% of what I paid for the bike to start with... (Of course it's only about 10% of my I'm going to have invested in the damn thing...)

Anyway, on the bright side it makes having my crankshaft lightened and balanced over at APE for $225 seam like a real bargain. (Pity they ground off the bearing numbers on the end of the crankshaft)

So, the question now becomes, what are new XJR rods sized at? The motor originally had blue bearings I think (kind of turquoise looking)  Hank Scott, from RRC, told me that I could use brown bearings and be okay. Any thoughts on how to measure to get the right size?

Also the rods come as #3 or #4, it just depends on what you get.
