Intro time ! I have had a 20yr break from roadbikes ending recently with the purchase of a 1TX FJ(red/white).When purchased the bike came with a roadworthy issued by the local Yamaha dealer, so, a quick test ride and I was off on the 4 hour return ride home.Plenty of oil in it,new tires, chain and sprocket, front brakes didn't feel quite right but the bike stopped so ... Rain started as I handed over the cash and pissed down all the way to Bundy.Made it home safely without incident.Found out the next day that the front brake had three of the four pistons seized in the housing, one of the sprocket cover bolt threads was also stripped (appears to be from over tightening),had to be the one that also holds the leaking slave on.Off came the master cyl.caps to find ants ,dirt and who knows what in there. Is Yamaha dealer an acronym for I will scam you ? Anyway with a lot of info from this site and Randy's help the bike is on the road again. Not as spectacular as my previous rides ( RZ 500) acceleration but the top end power is fantastic.Pulls hard to an indicated 160mph(not on a public road off course).Extremely easy bike to ride with power every where.Only disappointment apart from the constant need to repair/replace items (that's age I guess) is the stability of the thing.More tank slappers than the 500.Steering bearings will be done soon. Most rewarding hobby I have ever had.Have put about 3000 miles on it since purchase and look forward to many times that in the future.Without this site the bike wouldn't be on the road ,so a big thankyou to all the contributors (hope to become one myself in the future).   1986 1TX FJ ,70000 miles,Randy's pod filters(excellent),full V&h exhaust(shit quality).

Welcome fellow Red and White owner, tank slapping is not a natural trait of the FJ. Once you sort it out you will find the FJ is stable from zero to full on kookalooo. And then there are all the modifications you can do to make even more improvements. My 86 now has 17" front and back, fork valves, blue dot calipers. It is addictive. Either way you go you will get a lot out of this site.

Thanks for the welcome to the site. I got a phone call from the cops this afternoon, seems some woman in a red commodore station wagon took offence to me riding my bike.Spite maybe ? She was sitting at an intersection talking on a mobile,no oncoming traffic to be seen,no indicator from her,so I turned left onto the roadway.Looked in my mirrors about 1/4 mile later to see her sitting about 3 feet from my rear tire. When I stopped at the next set of lights she began shouting at me so I asked her what her f...ing problem was.She claimed I took right of way of her.I replied 'call lifeline ( a well known charity organisation) see if they care' and flipped her the bird. This was met with howls of laughter from the other motorists stopped at the lights.Turns out she reported me to the police for 'hooning' hence the phone call. The cop who rang me said he had received complaints from several motorists about my riding. When I told him the complaint would have come from this woman and set him straight as to the real story of what happened,he replied that he had conflicting stories as to what happened and was merely following up the matter . Big deal you say ,well in Queensland we unfortunately have what they call 'anti-hooning legislation'.First offence your bike is impounded for 3 months, any other offences within the next 5 years results in your bike being forfeited, sold or crushed.Nice place isn't it ! I have gone 20 years without even a parking ticket let alone a traffic offence. So be warned fellow FJ riders, tintops can be very spiteful and vindictive bastards when they desire.Fortunately the cop in question hasn't seen the need to charge me with anything yet,but it certainly takes the enjoyment out of even a sedate ride about town. With Queensland fast becoming an anti-motorcycle state I may have to consider moving elsewhere to spend my money and time. BE WARNED !

That so sucks. If you move where to? Strange to hear you can get a ticket because someone does not like the way you ride. I am sure many don't like the way I ride but that is ok because, won't be around them for long. Let your problems be behind you.  :bye2:

Yeah, well don't move to Victoria, where do you think QL's getting it's ideas from? Visitors from interstate and overseas will attest to Vic being one of the least motorbike friendly places on the planet. You can get jailed down here JUST for speeding, even if you're a mature rider and there are no other circumstances. We pay a $50 levy on our rego to fund the campaign against us and the Govt. is having another crack at introducing front number plates.
A couple of mths ago here a FWD did a U turn in front of a bike, the rider was killed.  The cop interviewed on the radio from the scene said " I don't know when these guys are gonna learn"
not a word about the FWD being at fault.  The Govt / Police can barely conceal there contempt for motorcyclists and all things motorcycling and would be pleased if we all just disappeared off the roads tomorrow. They are more concerned about the rights and protection of kiddy fiddlers than bike riders. Ok, ok ok I'd better stop before I get worked up.

Noel it is getting like that everywhere. It does sound like you guys are on the leading edge of this. Do gooders who are trying to save us all form ourselves, because they know best. They think we are not smart enough to make good choices. Remember this people will finally have enough, then there day will come but what mess to clean up after. It just keeps getting worse motorcycles, salt, large soda, smoking, trucks/suv's, what your yard looks like and whatever else they conger up.

Yeah I feel your pain Leather. Got done on tuesday for 83 in an 60 zone in the car. 6 lane road without speed signs near Capalaba. Other than on the way down there it was the first time on that road. Most of it is 70 or 80. There was 6 of `em having a field day.. 4pts and $366. Would have been a lot less if I hadn`t put on new tyres the day before. (Speedo under by 4klm/hr.) Quite a few complaints about it from others on local talk-back-radio..
But I agree the cops in VIC have become power crazies and seriously real bastards. (Pulled over 7 times in 2 days last Phillip Island trip - just to check my license!!) I ask them how they feel about all that training to just become a source of internal revenue, rather than an administrator of justice. (i don`t often pass the attitude test). Now like all Gov run departments in QLD they really need the cash - but so far I`ve found the QLD cops pretty good guys. Interesting to see that they will follow up on a complaint even though they know they can`t book you. - I actually like that - in most cases. If they follow Victoria`s lead they will have to spend heaps on P.R to get the citizens back helping them with real justice.
Around our way there`s a one way twisty climb up a mountain range they purposely leave alone cause it`s pretty safe to test the bike.- Suspect that type of co-operation will come to an end under Newmans heirarchy. -Suspect they`d be a lot worse if it wasn`t for our gun laws.  (popcorn)

"Go The Blues" Huh ? I don't follow the footy and everyone knows the red and whites rule supreme anyway. Thanks for the support and the insight. Hmm... maybe N.T. would be the place to live ? Crumble Newman only gives a shit about Brisbane, check out the state of the roads to see what I mean.Getting on another tangent, has anyone noticed most of the Volvo drivers seem to have traded up(or down) to Nissan Patrols ? p.s. forgive me and advise me if I should be posting this in another section ( guess the white bear is clouding my choices again).
