Portable motorcycle jack for under $3

Actually $2.93 CDN at Home Depot.

The original owner in his infinite wisdom removed the center stand and cut out one of the mounting brackets from the frame so reinstalling it is not an option at this point. For the most part, not having a center stand is no big deal. On the road however, it's a pain when it's time to lube the chain. So I did some research (internet) and found that there are a number of different portable jacks out there that raise the rear tire off the ground when the bike is on the side stand. As is often the case, the simplest solution is the best. The one that caught my attention used a turnbuckle as the main mechanism to raise the swingarm (and therefore the rear tire).

Picture 1 - parts required: Turnbuckle from Home Depot (or your favourite hardware store) plus two pieces of wood (6" long 2x3's) notched out so the ends of the turnbuckle will fit inside.

Picture 2: Jack assembly installed. Note: Initially I needed to use a wrench to turn the turnbuckle. That was easily resolved by putting anti-seize paste on the threads and now I can turn it by hand to raise the rear wheel.

Maybe not the prettiest solution but it does the job!

That's brilliant Ben. I have my center stand removed and only bolt it on when doing swingarm work. That is nice and simple for the road. :good2:
