Can't take it anymore, :shout: :shout:

Bought a zvmx 530 chain, DID says use the km500R tool for the zvmx, the dealer says "we have a universal riveting

tool, never heard of a specific tool for that chain".

Went to another place, same thing "we don't know, never heard that, we use shims to gauge the pressure on the link"

As anyone installed a zvmx chain with a regular riveting tool with success?

Nope, I bought the DID tool and never looked back.
Over the years, I've  done 4 chains for my bikes and 2 for others. Sure is nice having the right tool.
I did break a pin by not paying attention, so I suggest buying a extra to have on hand.

The tool has easily paid for itself.

Sure have.  I used a Stockton brand universal chain tool on my last chain and sprocket replacement.  I've also used the DID brand tool (on the previous chain) and guess what?  They both work just as well as the other, so you don't have to spend the extra cash on the DID branded tool.

It is strongly recommended for the chain builders not using clip in their chains... but, why do they make then?  :nea:
I´ve near used a clip, even I´ve been tempted because I´ve broken a couple of rivets too when installing chains. It seems like it is a good idea safety wiring the clip too

Went to the dealer with my chain...

They charged me 1 1/2 hours for the installation... (just the chain!!!!!!)

I am now a poor biker but with some brand new sprockets and chain!!

Thanks everybody for your comments and advice, will be riding all day long today.

This was chain and sprockets that would be at least 1 hour shop time. Were there any other problems sized/striped nuts or bolts?  (popcorn)

It was the chain only, I installed the sprockets my self.

For 1 1/2 hours they say they had to clean the chain cover (please look at the photo), they had to cut the chain (I

bought a 110 links chain with standard sprockets). I was told 35.00$ for a chain installed not 112.00$. But it was worth it, I had the smoothest ride ever yesterday!!

Is the photo taken after they cleaned it, or before?
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Wow, it either got dirty really fast or they lied to you and made you pay for it. Much of what you see in the photo has not even been touched, no attempt at cleaning. They might have scraped out some of the build up but to charge you for it is a crime in my world.   :ireful:

I believe this dealer as two working speed, slow when they sell you parts and extra slow when you bring yours.

Alain

And by the way, I dropped my fj on the parking lot yesterday, I was sure I'd put the side stand down but no!

I was lucky, only tiny scratches on the mirror case, It was my first time and hopefully le last...

Yes you got the shaft. I would take some more pictures then if you paid with a credit card dispute the charge. At least port some negative reviews. If you want to be a nice guy call and give them a chance to fix it. Hope this helps.  :unknown:

+1.

Why cant they be honest and just tell you..... the installation of the chain is this much if you buy it from us.....
and if you bring your own chain/parts then it will cost you this much....  Why cant they just say that it is not worth it to them not to charge/gouge extra if you dont buy their parts....

BUT, ....  :good:   the new chain is on, and there is a huge difference!

:drinks: Kookaloo time!!!

Glad to hear that it did not get hurt any worse. That just adds insult to injury with the problems at that shop. I think I would never go there again after the chain price is adjusted.
