I am kinda of new to the FJ Forum. I never noticed this introduce yourself thread.
I bought a wrecked 1986 FJ 1200 2 years a go with the intent of fixing and riding. Once I discovered that I needed to pull the engine and split the cases to replace an oil seal I started parting the bike. All the good stuff sold quickly (engine, suspension, corbin seat, side stand, etc). I was left with a carcass, plastic, swing arm and some other Misc parts I bought to repair the bike. I finally gave the carcass away for my friend to scrap the metal. Two weeks later a guy offered to trade me his 86 FJ 1200 for an old car I had. I made the deal but was miserable I had just give aware a perfect spares bike.
Great site so far. I encourage everyone to become a contributing member. My bike has been very reliable, but I am sure if I need mechanical advice I will find it on this site and people will get back to me quickly. I have owned, Suzuki GS1100 and 1150, Honda CB 700SC , BMW K1100RS, and now 1986 FJ 1200. The BMW is my favorite longer distance bike, but the cost and time to repair made me start looking for another bike. Some day I want to own a Kawasaki (85/86 GPZ 900 or 95/96 GPZ 1100). I will some day own a V ROD, and maybe a 1983 CB 1100F.
I believe the FJ will always be  one I keep,,,, might upgrade to the 1300 that bike looks slick and based on the performance of this 86 I have to believe its a scream to own/ride.

I have found a site that seems to be having a sale. Not a  ton of choices in my size but it looks like I can find riding pants and rain gear.
Heres a link to the site

That sounds great, how would one redeem that discount?

yamaha fj rider

Home page about 2/3 down Motorcycle Riding Gear then down that page about 1/3. Also Main page there is a heading FJ parts/service discounts and vendors. Please do not forget to thank Marsh and the others who are responsible for this. Thank you for contributing to the forum. Hope this helps?  :good2:

Welcome!  I have a similar story.  A friend gave me a '67 Alfa Romeo GT Veloce, Euro Spec with the 40 DCOE sidedrafts.  I did some minor work to it and sold it back in the 80's and sold it for $600 and used the money to buy a new '82 KZ750 LTD.  ONE WEEK after I had sold the bike, a guy had heard I owned one and called wanting to buy it.  He and his wife had matching '67's and hers had just been totaled.  He basically said, name your price.  I was sick and felt bad too when I told him it was already gone.

I would have tried to buy it back

In my case, I could not have dreamed up a more perfect parts bike.. My current bike really needs nothing, but if it ever did I could have just walked back to the shed. If the new bike popped up a few days earlier, I would have tried to get or buy back my old parts bike. I gave it to a friend to be sold as scrap, and he took it to the scrap yard the next day. :shout:
