Oversized ICON Helmet

I have a question that I hope could be answered. I have found an Icon helmet that has a paint pattern that I like and have not seen  on any others. The question is..... The Helmet is an XL and I wear a Med. Is it possible to remove the removable XL lining and replace it with size Med. lining? I am using the the idea that the shell and styrofoam is the same for the medium and XL sizes.

Hi aviationfred, not sure if this might help you, but I went through something similiar while looking for a particular Gmax helmet. The company sizing chart stated I needed a Medium, but the helmet  I had a chance to get was a large. I went for the large,. I asked the Gmax company about fitting medium cheek pads, but was told that starting from the L and on up, the outer shell was the same just the linings and pads where different thickness. I could not use the medium lining and pads in the large (mounting holes would not line up). But that might be just for the Gmax line.
Have you tried asking the company directly?

Fit is the most important thing in a helmets protection. Buy one that fits. If it is the wrong size you will probably will never be happy with it. Two sizes to large should be way to big. Hope this helps?

What model of helmet, and which design?

Usually helmets come in a couple shell sizes, but many inside sizes.  The Airframe, for example, has three shell sizes, but the medium shell is used for small and mediums, with a different shell for the large through 3XL.

Don't fake it on your safety gear though, y`know?  If nothing else, and you're really desperate for it, it's possible that you could find someone who could paint one to look the way you wanted, in a size that fit properly.

I've used a few different brands, but my current Shoei is the best so far, fairly quiet , excellent fit and comfort , good vents , I had a $400 agv race helmet, super light awesome venting but after half hour of riding was like wearing a bucket

Shoei is the brand of helmet I have been wearing for almost the last 25 years, they fit me the best and work great.

I emailed Icon and they responded. The model is the Domain II Devil Dog, they answered that the size XL and the Med do not have interchangable liners and cheeck pads. The snaps that hold everything in place will not line up. Thanks for all the input and advice.

sounds like a dodgy brand , try Shoei , arai , agv , suomi , shark, maybe even bell if they still make lids  ..  I had a Shoei about 22 years ago but found it uncomfortable, but love the new ones

Here is a photo of the Helmet I am looking to get. It is out of production and so for in my searches I have only been able to find it in sizes XS and XL.....
