Hello there

I read at the weekend that the 2013 historics racing now have opended up to bikes manufactured up to 1990 which means my 3cv now makes the cut. Good news about the bike bad news about the riding ability so I guess I'll be watching. Anyone heard if any FJ's that are or will be racing in the historics and how do you think the FJ would go at Phillip Island? I reckon Bathurst would suit the FJ more and went to sleep last night dreaming about a high speed run down conrod. I woke in a cold sweat thinking my ventura bag had fallen off while whizzing through the chicane and that I'd missed the pie stop.

Haven't heard of any in OZ, but theres a few in the UK that have been at it for years, I will froward the latest email from Kerry about last weekends racing and photo's.

Mark,
As Springy said, several in UK racing.  Doc Hacker seems to do pretty well with his FJ there.

You want to race at Bathurst?  Just think, through the esses you have a choice of going into the wall or over the cliff, and in Forest Elbow you have the choice of going into the wall on both sides, but only if you get it wrong. :-/  Very exciting track to watch bike racing on, but it would be terrifying to ride.  JMO  Philip Island also has huge speeds, but much safer with actual runoff room.

I was lucky enough to spend a day on the FJ at Phillip Island race track 2 days after the Moto GP a couple of years ago.  It went surprisingly well. Not sure why, but passed a lot of bikes out of corners and down the main straight that I thought would have been quicker.
It was the oldest bike there and raised a few eyebrows and "what have you done to it" questions.

Anyway, who cares, being on a real race track, going as fast as you like or dare, regardless of where you are in pack, is a real blast.  A great experience to have and tick off your bucket list.

I don't think I added anything to the Stoner, Rossi et al rubber sitting on the outside of the corners but it was one of my more memorable bike experiences and a whole lotta fun.

Mark, you should do it, at least once. If my bike qualified ('93) I'd be in it in a heartbeat.

Thanks for the links to FJ racing in the UK I enjoyed the read and the pics. Noel, I'd love to have a crack at racing but I'd need more than a few track day sessions to sharpen up besides my bike is stock and apart from an eventual rear shock upgrade and braided lines it'll stay that way. Arnie, I've driven Bathurst through my x box and thats enough for me although I hear its still a public road so perhaps one day I'll get up there for a leisurely ride. Does anyone remember conrod pre the chicane and the other parts of the circuit pre the ramped up safety stuff? My old man who's now in his 80's raced up there and his stories are  amazing. He can still vividly describe riding bathurst on his velocette, each corner and each pothole!

Anyways my FJ qualifies for the 2015 Broadford Bike Bonanza so I'll just have to be content with a few demonstration laps around that track.
