When did the FJ downpipes turn stainless?
Looking at a pair of used 1988 pipes, would be nice to buy them and polish them if that is the case.

'84/85's had the black chrome double wall tubes, in '86 they went to single wall stainless....you are good to go...

I had one of my '84 double wall pipes break on me at the WCR... What a friggin racket.... Even the Harley guys were impressed.

It sounded awful.

That was Pat's new (super secrete, but not super quiet) Diesle 1400 cc engine.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

ah nang ah nang ah nang ah nang ah nang ah nang.... jeeze louise.  It sure freaked me out when I first heard it.

Thinking, oh fuck, there goes the tour I've waited for all year.... At the hotel I said, "Hey Randy, come over here and listen to this..."
His eyes got real big and he said, "Well...That's a new noise I've never heard before...."

The saving grace was, that once at speed (with my ear plugs in) I couldn't hear it.....

....only when I slowed down... ah nang ah nang ah nang ah nang ah nang ah nang.

A godawful noise for sure... All the way to Gunnison and back...ah nang ah nang ah nang ah nang ah nang.......

I still hear it in my sleep.

And, it MAY sound like a tractor, but it DOESN'T look like an AMBULANCE!

I maybe ...lol but seriously you have done a lot to your bike and if you not going to polish them you can make them look better buy quickly painting them --- and when you do decide to polish the paint will come off pretty easily.
