Vibrating fairing

So I'm not a total newbie to bikes, but I'm having an issue which I may have created. When I got my FJ, it needed a valve adjustment, so before I rode it, I took it apart, did the valve adjustment, and put it back together as it was. Now it vibrates the plastics badly enough that the fairing bolts closest to my knees have twice now vibrated out of the fairing. Until I tightened them, the mirrors would actually vibrate down towards the rider over 3,500 RPM!
I've checked everything over, and I can't figure out why this is doing this. Nothing looks out of place, and everything is tight- what gives? Mark W.

Did you sync the carbs?

Did you take the cams out? If so, you could have re-installed them a tooth off on the cam chain....

If you removed only the bits that are required for adjusting the valves, and you adjusted the valves properly, and reassembled the bits back on, you would not likely induce any new or increased vibration. You might have reassembled improperly, allowing for fasteners to come loose but I find that hard to believe. You don't seem new to bikes as you did your own valve adjustment. Fasteners require proper torque and or anti-vibration stuff (Thread lock, lock washer etc...) to keep them inplace. But your mirrors are not related to any work you performed. Sounds like you need to make sure your carbs are synced. They can be a major source of vibration, even more so if your FJ is an earlier year like the 84 to 87 years, no rubber engine mounts. Sync the carbs next, they are easy to do and should be done with every cvalve adjustment anyway.

Any chance that you might not have seated one of the valve shims correctly and its been spit out?
Are all the sparkplug caps on, and on the right plugs?

Flynt

you can get some serious vibrations if the carbs are not clean and synch'd well...

If you think everything was done correctly? then syncing the carbs probably solve your problems. I always sync carbs after adjusting the valves.
