ABS warning light

Well the transformation to my 92/93 3xw is complete! new GSXR rear with pilot road 2, new dog bones (wheel is now flush with ground when on centre stand-which getting it onto seems easier to me now than it did before).  Rear braided lines and better rear pads on.  Torque arm attached to rear of foot peg.  Front master cylinder from 1999 Fazer, braided front lines, blue dots, HH EBC pads (not yet warn in but still stop quicker than the old front and rear put together!).  18t front sprocket, 42t rear. New chain.

F**k me it turns quicker than a politician, stops quicker than a peadophile outside toys r us and always went quick, but the whole lot feels......dare i say it.....Kookaloo now!!

I took it out down a quite country road near me and opened her up gently and it set off like a gazzle on steroids! in what felt like less than 4 or 5 seconds the speedo went from 55mph to just under 130mph and was still going strong at which point i remembered everything was still not broken in and rapidly came back down to a more legal 60mph.  I never realised my helmet let in so much cold air at those speeds!!

Need a bit of help however.  The ABS has been stripped out, with the exception of the pump assembly itself as that is buried deeper than the truth at a government enquiry, and involved too much faffing about at this early stage in my relationship with 'Babs' (the nickname by which i shall refer to her as from her on in). This meant she has probably shed a bout 3/4 of a tonne in less than an hour.  But this has meant that that the ABS warning light is consantly on and although i know this has no significance or relevance would be nice if it could be switched off.

Have had a search through on hear and cant seem to find much on it.  Is there a simple way, a fuse perhaps or a 'shall i cut the blue wire or the red wire' type scenario in which i could pretend to be Keano reeves or Bruce Willis (sorry im getting carried away, just had luch so will blame it on the sugar rush) to put out the light.

Any thoughts, guidance or advice welcome i dare say this has been covered before and i have missed an obvious link, if so please point me in the way of it!

I promise to put up some pics once i have added the CBR mirrors when they arrived and having been in the shop she is covered in mucky paw prints so needs to be made shiney before i take any photos.

Cheers folks

If the Euro spec abs model  is the same as the Canadian version just pull the ABS pump fuse. If you haven't already removed the rest of the electronics this would be the time.

The ABS wiring harness along with the fail safe relay and the ECU can easily be removed at this time. Its a stand alone system that can be unplugged from the main harness without any cutting of wires.

I would also suggest that you do remove the pump as there will be a good amount of brake fluid in there plus the majority of the weight  of the ABS system is the pump itself. Yes it is a bit of a pain to get out but its easier then it looks.

Hein.

where abouts do I start looking for the fuse etc.?  :scratch_one-s_head: I'm sure once I have found part of the wiring harness I can track it through. The removal of the pump is on the 'to do' list.  But rest assured the contents have been vacuumed out!

Remove seat and look to the right side of the frame just back from the negative battery terminal. The main and the abs fuse are 30 amps and are in the same fuse box. Remove the abs fuse and the light should go out.

The abs ecu and the relay are located at the back of the tail section. There are approx 6 plug connections, if my memory serves me right, and they are all easy to find when the seat and side covers are off. If you already unpluged the wheel sensors then the rest will be easy to find.

Anything connected to the abs ecu and the relay harness can be unplugged and you should be left with a wiring harness that is now redundant.

Hi folks, I followed Heins instructions, removed the fuse.  Didn't remove the loom in case I decide to sell it and the new owner wants it back.

Well the abs warning light is still shining brightly!  Local mechanic said he will happily disable it but from behind the instrument cluster but it's a fiddly and prolonged affair for the sake of a connector so recomended living with it till its next service.

Would prefer it, in case the old bill pull me and decide to be picky!  Anyone got any ideas of how to disable it with out too much fuss!  If you can tell me how to sort it from behind the instrument panel I will have a go!

Uh, hopefully this is not too obvious:  Pull the bulb?

Thanks for that DavidR!  No it had occurred to me but that that does beg the next obvious question, how the heck do I easily get behind the instrument cluster??  :scratch_one-s_head:

I have pulled the instrument cluster on my '93 without removing the whole fairing, but it is somewhat involved.

I don't recall whether I had to remove the panels beside the tank or not.  If I did, then I was only 2 headlight bolts from removing the fairing anyway.

You have to get the cluster out to get to any of the bulbs.  Grab a screwdriver and start taking stuff off.  :-)

Cheers Fella.

Now where did i put that screwdriver set!

Hi nurse.

I wrongly assumed that you were removing all the ABS gear. Since you're leaving the ABS wiring harness in place causing the light to stay on you can still turn the light off without diving into the instument cluster.

Under the seat and the left side cover near the battery  you will find a couple of 4 wire connectors. One of them will have 2 12 gauge wires, A red and a black plus 2 18 gauge wires, light brown with white stipe and a white with a red stripe. disconnect this 4 wire connector and the light should go out.

I just tested this method by plugging in only this connector and my ABS light came on.

Hein, in my best Ned Flanders voice "okey dokey". I'm off work tomorrow (it's my birthday) so will have a tinker!  I knew it would in a hollywood style red wire or the green one scenario (well brown with a stripe anyway!!) Thanks for the help.

On a complete tangent, my wife and I went on honeymoon to Vancouver (sort of your part of the world i think) stayed in canada place, Elliot bay and had a day trip to Vancouver island, regreted not booking a few days there tbh. Beautiful part of the world, your very lucky u have such gorgeous scenery!  We always said we would go back one day!

You sexy beast you!  What a simple fix! Should this be put in the files section?  Just an after thought before I go whizing off down the road at 100mph, it doesn't disable anything else does it which I may need? Non essentials like the brakes themselves, lights, signals? I'm not an auto electrician so it was one of those blind faith in a perfect stranger from the other side of the world moments! Not that I don't trust you or anything, after all I have already disconnected it so its abut late for second thoughts!

Thanks again, what a birthday present! Thanks for kind wishes general :good2:

Happy birthday nurse.

Unplugging this connection does not effect any other electrical function on the bike. This is just the power supply and ground for the ABS ecm plus the connection from the ecm to the abs dash light. As a precaution do seal off the 4 plug connector from the main harness since you still have a live 12 volt lead there.

Thank you, :good2:

I will grab the electrical tape and get to it tomorrow after work!  I have had one too many celebratory sherberts to be safe with anything technical at this late stage of the evening.
