carb sync tool

So I'm thinking about investing in a nice fancy carb sync gauge set. I have tried the homemade ones and failed so I have been looking at the ones with the gauges over the mercury ones, just because it seems like over time the gauges will have a longer life....that's just what I have read.

Have seen a lot that are similar to this type -

What do you guys think? Is this one legit? Worth the money?

FJdude, I have a set of those.
My observations are that they are very sensitive (you have to run the restrictors almost fully closed to prevent needle flutter), and they are very sensitive when zeroing the gauges to start with.

Apart from that, they worked just fine.

I tried gauges years ago but I find the vertical columns on the sticks easier to read than 4 gauges with fluttering needles. After a knuckle head move sucking the liquid mercury out of my last stick, I moved to a Morgan Carb Tune which is my current fav.

Note to Leon.... Do not blip your throttle with the stick connected.... Like me, you will wonder where all the mercury went.

I have a set of gauges exactly like that, but I got them from JC Whitney on sale for $15 lots of years ago.  They work fine but are touchy and do require you to keep re-setting them so X units of vacuum gives an equal reading on all gauges.

The set of gauges Randy sells looks to be better quality.
I've used mercury sticks before and they are also ok.

If I were going to replace them, I'd get the Morgan Carb-Stix.

Sounds like everyone here loves those Morgan carb sticks...I would not be opposed to getting mercury sticks I just read somewhere that after X amount of years the mercury dries out and good luck finding mercury or wanting to replace it.

It looks like the Morgan carb sticks run about $98, I would not mind spending an extra $20 or $30 on something that will make my life a whole lot easier, but I also plan on keeping these things for a very long time as I rebuild motors (not just motorcycle, outboard, and farm equipment as well). So I would like what ever I am getting to last, be durable, and easy as possible.

Mercury doesn't dry out, it evaporates, so volatile it will work its way thru glass given enough time.

More importantly, it spills.  And that's annoying.

The morgan rocks to use.  It sucks to pay for, and it sucks to wait for if they're shipped from overseas.  Once it's in your hands, it makes synching carbs laughably easy.
