I was at the gas station with my bike and this kid pulls up on some kind of face and asked if I made my bike myself.......because he had never heard of it......let alone seen one.  That made me feel real old......not to mention how oblivious he was to a great bike made before his time....lol

A few years ago me and Calvin went riding to the mountains with a younger guy from work. He was riding the newest GSXR 600 and said it would be no problem to keep up on the ride to the hills. We rode for about an hour when we took our first break, as we were chatting he said he didnt think much of the old bikes untill we got to passing traffic. He then discribed the FJ's as one car passing mother fucker.... he had a new respect for the old bikes....

You know, I am not fond of iterating this here, but a few years back, I flew to Spokane, WA and rented a bike to ride all over the PNW.  There was two of us.  The only bike we could rent were the Harley Street Rod, and the Buell 900 something -can't remember.  We switched bikes back and forth every other day.

For all of their flaws, and there really were many of them, both of these bikes were truly exceptional car passers.  I must have passed 500 cars over that 4 day period, more than I ever had, or have since.  The twin lumps really do have remarkable torque.  They run out of breath way too soon, and neither of the bikes could handle all that well when it got twisty -which I think simply comes from that 'grandfatherly design impetus' that seems to be there for BOTH of these bikes -the Buell somewhat less.  They were very heavy, and made their weight known, the feedback was vague at all points; bars, seat, and pegs, again the Buell was better than the Harley here.  Overall, renting these bikes showed me that Harley, nor Buell were bikes I wanted to own.  Having said that, I enjoyed thrashing them for 4 days in WA, ID, MT, AB, BC, for 1500 miles....  and that torque was, to the point above, memorable.
