Another Blue Dot Caliper question

I'm looking into picking up a set of Blue Dot front calipers.  From what I read here, they are usually talked about with an upgrade to the Master Cylinder.  Question: Is it OK to just put the Blue Dot's on and use the stock M/C with good results?  I may look into an upgrade to the M/c in the near future, but for the time being I was just going to install just the calipers.

Also, what are the preferred brand/type of pads that are used with the Blue Dots??

Thanks!

Mark

I used the OEM Yamaha R1 brake pads.
Not sure about the master, as I upgraded at the same time.

I'm using the stock master.  I don't consider it a problem.  I do plan on upgrading to an FZ1 14mm master eventually.

The Blue-Dots will work with the stock FJ master. They will work better with the R1 nonradial 14mm master, better feel overall and you get an adjustable lever. They will work better still if you use a Nissin 19mm radial master. I am using  one from a 2006 GSXR600. And the best master I've ever used with Blue-Dot calipers is the radial master from a late model R1 (this may be a Nissin master too, but it's not the same as the GSXR radial master).
I like the stock Blue-Dot (Sumitomo G-G) brake pads, they don't wareout the stock rotors or make noise like most of the H-H aftermarket pads.

If you are going to the trouble of bleeding you are better off getting the M/C at the same time.   I have seen plenty of them on ebay... best type I think is for 2001 -03 ish Yzf 600 or 1000 ... with the Non-urine cup.  It matches the bike better.

there is a urine cup type with all the fixin's on ebay now  Item number: 280873876037

nice master cylinder, so it works as good as it looks, i thought my 14mm nissin one was scary , slows down faster that it accelerates   :wacko3:  :yahoo:
unless you ride bikes, I mean really ride bikes, then you just won't get it

Mine is from I think 01 FZ1 -- non urine cup.  I think it fits the vintage of the bike better.  Its all a matter of preference though.

Thanks for all the input guys, it was a big help.  The pictures were great too, thanks Moparman70 and ccsct203.

I've got a set of Blue-Dots from an 2002 R6 on the way from ebay.

I'm looking at an 2001 FZ1 master with adjustable lever now. I prefer to looks of the coffin type master so I'm favoring this FZ1 route.
If I'm reading the posts from my search query correctly, and from the pictures in this post and the pictures on ebay, it looks like FZ1 m/c bolts right on with the correct orientation for the brake line too. ? Yes?
Thanks again.

Good morning Mark,
This is the same conversion I did almost two years ago (including braided brake lines) and was quite pleased with the results.
Originally I used the stock Yamaha brake pads. However several months ago I installed the upgraded pads from RPM and the difference in stopping power is very noticeable (& welcomed too!) and feel was much better as well.
I also had the uh, "opportunity" to try them in the rain on more than one occasion and the pads performed well, maintaining their good feedback.
To date, they are not squealing or discoloring the rotors.
Good luck,
Mike

Markmartin, if you do go with the braided lines you don't have to get three lines and still use the spliter;  you can just get two lines and go straight from  the master to each caliper all you have to do is change the banjo bolt to accept the two lines... if you look close you can see that in my picture

I am using a 05 FJR master at 15mm. Works great but would love to see how the 14mm works.

Ok, I have added the blue dot conversion to the winter list of things to do. 2002 r6 calipers on the way. I have not found any thing for the rear in the mod section. What year should I be looking for? Any fabrication needed to the fitment? Planning on relacing master cylinder during the mod, planning on a non urine cup type.
