Pinlock face shields..

Anyone have any experience with them?

I'm in need of a new clear face shield for my helmet and saw these available.  I can purchase a separate anti-fog insert which would be very helpful given where I live and the fact I'll likely be riding in rain (again) for at least day one of the ride down to the WCR.

Curious to know if there is any funky effects from looking though the insert and face shield or is it totally clear as normal.  ??!!

Thanks!

Hey Garth,  I've been using pinlock face shields with both my Shoei RF-1000 and RF-1100 helmets for the past few years.  I can't recommend them enough.  There is absolutely no distortion, and when riding in the wet, I haven't found anything that works as well.  I ordered mine through Yamaha Sports Plaza, but you can sometimes find them in stock at Cycle Gear.  Hope the info helps.

+1 on the pinlocks.... i carry a couple of inserts in my tankbag.... a smoked one for daytime, clear one for night time and a yellow one for rainy /overcast conditions.

they work fantastic and since they store flat they take up almost zero space in my tankbag.  :good2:

I got one with my HJC CL-16 and i have the clear one and it works awesome. i have used it when it was 30 degrees fahrenheit and did not have to have a single vent open or have it cracked at all even when stopped

with the pinlocks...... dont use anything but water and a very soft cloth to clean the inserts.... they are easily damaged by chemicals. (fully close your shield before spraying any kind of cleaner on the outside ... the chemicals WILL get on your brand new insert. DAMHIK  :dash2:).

For best results take the time to adjust the pin tension so the insert has a good seal all the way around.....if you look at the helmet from the front it may look like the insert is touching the shield but it wont affect what you see.... just worry about the perimeter seal.

I've personally ridden in 16 degrees f. with absolutely no fogging of the insert......it was super fogged all around the insert but i had clear view.

The pinlock works best if you keep the shield completely closed in bad weather in order to avoid getting the insert wet..... it WILL mess with you when there is water on the inside AND outside of your faceshield.  :good2:

Even tossed in a stop and go tire patch kit.  Submitted my order at 11am, by 11:30 my order was packed and I had a tracking number.

Now I need some brake pads...Will pay Randy's site a visit.  :)

Another satisfied pinlock user.  Its absolutely the only thing I've ever used that actually works to prevent fogging.

I've used the Fog City shields for years, they have an adhesive around the perimeter and stay in the faceshield all the time. They work GREAT, but you need one for each shield if you swap between smoke and clear...

I used a fog city insert, too.  It worked.....for a while.  Then it began degrading until it was almost opaque.  Had to trash the shield as it was stuck on there more or less permanently.
