Thoughts needed

I know this is not a MODIFICATION to my bike but I need an opinion on a item to transport my bike

I wanted to get a trailer but I don't want to take up more room

What are your thoughts on this:

And riding my FJ is an option to some places but sometimes I need the car for added room




I tried to jamb it in the trunk but it wouldn't fit

Somebody else will probably know the answer to this but one thing I'd be thinking about is if you are towing the bike, then the chain wil running, and driving a component of the FJ gearbox, and associated bearings. If the FJ motor isn't running, then I doubt those bearings will be properly supplied with oil.
With no load so to speak of as the bike is under tow will it matter? I'm not sure but the engineer part of me wonders...

I'm sure someone who's had the box apart can tell you exactly what is being driven when the bike is in nuetral with the rear tyre spinning...

1).  You could leave the bike running to help push the car, perhaps hook up some linkage for the clutch. kidding...
2).  If it's a concern you could remove the chain if you use a master link.
3).  I don't think I would be concerned if it were my bike... GYSM should show an oil path for lubrication, but I believe oil in the transmission only gets splashed around.

Either way it should look trick going down the highway!

Nope, the transmission is high & above the oil level in the pan, and it is lubricated by the same oil galley the services the crank & camshafts.

Imagine the transmission center line is the center of the clutch cover, that's a good 2" above the oil.

Then if you did tow with it like that, since the transmission is constant mesh, it would burn up both gear shafts unless it was running.

Only way would be remove the chain.

Good stuff right there! Interesting that they have a disclaimer in the auction to remove the driveshaft if the bike is an automatic.  I also see they have a Harley Davidson as an example, Randy, any idea if those use a constant mesh tranny?

They are, but since the transmission is not an integral part of the engine and is driven by the primary belt, they are running their transmissions in a constant bath of oil.

That hitch rack is scary looking. id beafraid my bike owuld fall off the back or something.

That "Trailer in a Bag" looks interesting

My car has a 350lbs tongue weight and a 3500lbs tow weight.

The fact it's turbo'd helps too

I dunno, for serious interstate slabbing, I would want something other than a trailer with go cart wheels....

For around town or short trips I guess a 8" or 12" tire would be ok.......

Just an IDEaR --- what if you mounted the back wheel to the hitch and run with the front tire hitting the ground.  You would have to engineer some type of fork brace to keep the front wheel locked but I think that is do-able.

My other concern would be making sure the whole lot doesn't fall on its side ... the dirt bike pictured if far lighter than an FJ

I like the concept -- but it needs to modify.

The other concern would be all the miles put on either tire during the trip.   If it were a long trip you might have to buy a new tire just to ride the bike
