Hello, all,

Just a brief intro...

I bought my FJ1200 new in '91. She's now got 34K mi. on the clock, mostly, sad to say, accumulated on the Santa Monica freeway.

When I got clipped on the way to work 6 years ago, I decided I was getting too old to be a bike commuter, so she sat in the carport collecting dust until about 2 months ago. Since I'd been laid off, I figured I had time to get her running again.

Well, she runs again, but not well (yet). But I'm getting her back up to snuff, and I'm glad y'all are here!
(Kindly also see my post in the "Running Problems" section.)

Cheers,

Hi and welcome Steve,

Which 3 Jags do you have?  150/E or the sedans?

I'd loan you my valve tool, but I'm not quite in the neighborhood (Australia).

My guess is that you will have to remove your carbs an properly clean them to get the bike running properly.  It's easier if you remove the 2 upper bolts that hold the subframe to the main near the battery.

As for the inner fairing plastic - you may still be able to get a new part from YAM dealers Zanotti or Mondak.  They give us pretty good pricing on most Yam items if you tell "John @ Zanotti" or "Gary McCoy @ Mondak" that you're on the FJ email list.

Cheers,
Arnie

Hi, Arnie,,

I have a '67 420, a '66 3.8S automatic, and a (currently disassembled and being restored) '65 3.8S MOD. They keep me out of trouble on Saturday afternoons. ;)

Regarding the fairing piece, yes, they're available new, but list is over $400 these days. Even a nice discount would likely be a bit pricey for something that isn't really necessary. Not really in any hurry for it; my old one is cracked and glued is all. And you never know what someone will have sitting on their shelf...

Cheers,

Welcome to the forum Steve!   :drinks:  The people and the information here are/is great.  I grew up restoring English sportscars;  Jaguars, Austin Healy's and MG's.  My wife and I have done a partial restoration and engine rebuild on a 1962 E-Type for my brother and a lot of work including a paint job on a friend's 1982 XJ6.  :dash1:  Now our baby is an FJ.  Again, welcome to the forum and I hope that you will take advantage of the knowledge here.

Thanks for the welcome, Murray and Sherry!

Also, I've always been rather fond of your signature quote - not only as a long-time Churchill admirerer, but also as one of those "rough men" (about 30 years ago)...

Gooday threejags and welcome from another newbie
Three Jags=nine puddles of oil, each of a different color....
Those were the days, mine was a Mk2 3.8 manual lowered, wire wheels with a louvered bonnet in New British Racing Green.
Now they are butting starter buttons back in- whoda thunk????
Good luck with FJ too :i_am_so_happy:
I've often been asked, 'What do you old folks do now that you're retired'?

"Well. I'm fortunate to have a chemical engineering background, and one of the things I enjoy most is turning beer, wine, Scotch, and margaritas into urine."

Welcome Steve,

There are close to a dozen of us here in and around So. Cal. I'm sure you will get her running perfect again, your on the right forum to achieve that.

Keep checking eBay for time to time I'm sure the part that you are looking for will pop up.

Yeah, Mike, the Jags keep me on eBay fairly regularly, both buying and selling... ;)
