1) Do consider buying the Yamaha FJ1100-1200, XJ1200 & XJR1300 Starter from Randy at RPM racing. Prompt service and the part works like a Starter on steroids. Nice job Randy.

2) Make sure you have a flex socket adapter to get to the terminal nut on top of the Starter. I found that having a socket extension and the flex socket adapter made this part a piecec of cake. Get to the nut from the top of the bike and inside the perimeter frame.

3) The hydraulic line for the clutch may block you from easily removing the starter. Loosen the Banjo nut and swing the line out of the way, tighten when the line is placed out of the way to avoid excess fluid leaks. Put in the new starter, and then loosen the banjo nut again and swing the line back in place and tighten. I lost maybe a half table spoon of hydraulic fluid overall.

4) Get as much play on the starter wire as possible as folks with big hands will need to get the nut on the terminal while the starter just rests inside the frame. Push the rubber terminal boot clear out of the way.

5) Do not forget to lube the rubber gasket with motor oil before the starter is placed onto the bike.

There you have it, If I can do this anyone can do this. :shok:
