Hello everyone,

My name is Jim DeHan, I have a 1986 FJ1200, 14,584 miles (11,231 when I got it). I'm the second owner and I plan to be the 'Last' owner. My FJ is pretty much 'stone stock' except for the 'Corbin' seat that my wife bought and the new 'Barnett' clutch kit I installed. I just purchased  'Delkevic'  muffler's (Tri-oval Carbon Fibre and stainless, beautiful part's) and collector and will be installing them next weekend. I need to 'Rebuild' the front fork's on this thing (leaking seal's), and have never had any experience in doing so. I am asking all of you 'Experienced' FJ owner's for advice, emulator's, progressive springs, what's the right direction !!! RPM seems to have most everything I want including oil filter adapter and cooler, but I'm just not sure ? Any help or guidance would be deeply appreciated !!!

Jim-

Welcome here.  You timing is good, in that Randy @ RPM has just, in the last couple of days, announced that he will be selling the new fork valves beginning next week sometime.  It does not look like he has announced a price yet, but I would bet a beer it will be fairly priced as compared to the Race Tech emulators -not to put words in Randy's mouth.

Here is that thread:  http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=6114.msg53945#msg53945

If I were in your shoes, I would be seriously considering this mod, as I did my seals.

Welcome to the group  :hi:

Another 86 is always good :good2:

As for you forks , get the repair manual and read the procedure a few times till it starts to make sense.
replace seals and bushings.

Many of us have upgraded to later model forks so we can use the 17" wheel and better brakes of the later models.

Welcome Jimmy, another Red and White, we are getting so close to the ambulance drivers having a majority vote. But since votes don't really count....Welcome anyway. Randy has almost every thing you need to keep your FJ in the Kookaloo zone. I make no profit from supporting him, he offers the best prices for quality items. You can get better prices but the quality may not be the same. I chose quality for my FJ. I am planning to upgrade my forks to 89' with Randy's cartridge (not emulators) inserts, bushings, seals and wiper. 88' FZR 1000 front wheel and gold/Blue dot calipers. He has the front wheel and steering head bearings as well. If you are on a budget, get the bushing kit and seal kit and read up on how to do it your self. Get a repair manual as well. Some of the tools can be made with inexpensive Home Depot parts. Keep us posted on your progress.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Wow. what a reception, this is a great site. Thank's for all the Info. I got an oil filter adapter from Randy! ( What a nice piece) and I,m looking at the front fork pieces. Right now I just cant afford the "Cartridge and new springs" so I'm gonna take all the "Advice" from everyone and buy a "Seal and bushing set" and do it myself. I,ve got the factory manual (on C-D) and with the "Files" Section here I'm sure I can. My alternator/generator quit chargeing so I'm also going to get a "voltage regulator" from "Randy", I just can't see anything else inside that's bad.
On a last note, I just got done with the "Delkovic" muffler's and center section, along with wrapping the front pipe's with "Titainium/Lavarock" header wrap. I'll put some pic'c on site as soon as I can get it out of my shop.
Thank's for help everyone,

Welcome!  Great group of folks here and very knowledgeable on all things FJ.  I used to be a little jealous of the UK FJ group, but with Randy stepping up to take care of all things FJ, we got them beat now!

Is that a ProMod?  Still have it?  Any details?
