Well, so far so good.  I needed a motor/tranny for my first FJ - and really my first real bike.  I took a chance and bought a 22k miles parts bike with no knowledge on the motor itself.  I decided to give the motor a whirl today... got it ready to fire -- changed the oil -- wd40 the insides..etc.
The history on the bike was that it had been sitting for a number of years and even with the long term sitting this bike has done ( previous owner) the FJ started up very quickly, idles great and shifts through the gears.

There was some smoke in the beginning but that eventually burned off and looks to be running clean

Compression test on the cylinders-- all were even and around 120.  It looks like I have a new project --- removal of this motor to transplant into my 86 ...now the questions on changing motors will begin....

Way to go Steve,

I know that you love that bike and glad to know that it's going to live again.  :yahoo:

Take care,

thanks Craig --- yes it will be good to get it on the road again... I re-tested the compression the correct way - engine warm and open throttle -- all four cylinder at 160psi -- each the same ... I don't know what the spec is but the book says as long as they are all close +- 10 psi so I should be good.

I do like my 89 though and the blue dots so I am really not sure what to do if all goes well and I get a smooth motor in the 86 ---

Planning on removal this weekend -- then I will pretty it up some --  and maybe in a few weeks do the swap.

Go Steve, you are gonna love the sportier 86'.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Hey Steve,

How did your engine swap go today? Get her all up and running?
