If it's not broken, fix it anyways

FJ111200

Not those, but i've got some Raask clamp on risers on my 3CV front end which i've got on my XS1100.

Those Spieglers seem very expensive compared to the Raask.

I have the LSL Street Bars High:  33.5" wide, 3.5" back, 3.75" up. Wider & higher than stock, which works well for me.
It's a well made kit. After five years I've had no problems.

I put the Spiegler bar kit  on my '89 in 2003. My clamps are black and the bar was silver. I put a black Daytona bar from bikemaster, $23. It fits me and the bike better. I like it better than Genmar risers and I prefer the Daytona bar to the bar that came with the LSL setup.

I installed a Speigler kit on my ZX9 and liked it a lot.  They make a quality product, everything you need is included.  If it take longer brake lines, they're included, if you need to reroute wiring, the instructions tell you how.

I am installing the 94 FZR1000 front end on my 84 and I am calling Speigler tomorrow regarding the hose for the clutch. I feel the LSL setup with 2 SS Brake hoses is not out of line.

@BOB, was your bike on eBay? what did you do for Throttle Cables and Clutch Line?

Hey Mike, I like Tim's (axiom-r) solution on the top clamp/bar set up he used on his USD fork conversion.
The 2011 FZ8 top clamp has some very nice vibration bushings, superior to what Speigler offers.
This solution would work well with our FZR USD front ends...

Thanks Tim for the great idea....Ya gotta love this forum.

I realized that I had not show the progress made on my triple clamps and bars. Here are a couple of shots of my set up.  I wanted a black top clamp and one pre-cast with the holes for rubber mounting the bar holders etc.  I had the original R1 clamp on there but I was not happy with the thin material especially if I was going to have to drill holes for the bar clamps and not have rubber dampers etc.

I was looking for a solution about the time the new FZ8 came out....  I ordered these 2011 parts and was told they would have to come direct from Japan as no dealers had parts stock for the FZ8 yet. Unfortunately the earthquake and tsunami came and I had to wait it out for these parts to arrive....

I am really happy with these as they look as if they were made for the FJ and one of my goals in this conversion is to try to make the bike look OEM. I picked up the clamp, the bar holders and rubber bits and the bars- all 2011 FZ8.  What do you guys think?

This set moved the key back to center- only minor hassles getting the ignition mounted up and allows the steering lock to work as is....  You can see the Cycle One Off fork extenders below the triple clamp.  These added 2" to put the total fork length back to stock and they have some room below the clamp so if needed I can reduce the total length a bit by dropping the clamps down the forks...  Best part- this cost about half of the cost of an Gen II FZ1 set which was the other suggested path...

Heres mine. 1989 I really like it. Worth every penny. I bought it direct from Speigler USA

And if you want to use a silver upper tree the 06 or later FZ1 unit is the same. Also finding one on Ebay is much better than rounding up used FZ8 parts.

So it looks like Axiom-R is using an R1 fork setup. I like the extensions for the forks.
Pat, does your setup have extensions? IIRC you got the complete front end ready to install.
The 94 FZR top clamp has bushings installed from the Clip-On anchor that I could double up and get the cushion effect.
I get the frame bits back from Powder Coating this week so I'm getting like a Kid in a Candy Shop.

Yes, my front end came from Steve Conklin and the bar clamps (with no risers) are solid mounted to the top clamp with no bushings or vibration isolation.
The 2002 FZ1 oem bars I use are narrower than the wide Spiegler bars and place the grips in a perfect location for me.
Kim's idea of the '06 and later FZ1 clamp has merit but I don't need the oem FZ1 bar clamps with the risers. The bar will be too tall with the risers.

Tim's idea with 2011 FZ8 clamp has the bar clamps without the risers. I like that setup.

Perhaps I could just get the Kim's '06+ FZ1 top clamp (cheaper and easier to find) and order the oem 2011 FZ8 bar clamps?
