Thinking about paint colors

I'm planning on re-doing the paint on my "orange abomination"

and am having a hard time deciding between Eastwoods "rat rod flat black" (less expensive, no need to wax, match the rest of the bike which appears to have had the frame and swingarm all painted black) or going with some of the Auto Air Color water based paints.

I really like the look of this dark green candy but don't know how it would look.  I don't see too many green bikes running around (other than Kawasakis).

I've seen some pretty good looking non-factory colors in the gallery here and thought I'd get some inputs.

i'm planning on painting my bike pretty close to the same color this spring, with black rims and white lettering  :good2:

I'm not much of an orange fan but yours looks pretty good in that pic, bit of pearl maybe?
That's a nice meaty green. I'm trying to find a very dark black cherry for my fj1100 right now but not having much luck in automotive colours.

Anything that covers up the Red/White is an improvement...      :bomb:

Seriously though, matte black would be badass.  Dunno why you'd paint over the orange, though.

Look at Auto Air Colors.  They have a line of water based paint that seems to get good reviews.  They've got a black cherry.  They've also got some pearls or flakes that you can mix in.

The orange is OK but there are a couple of decals I'm not crazy about (skull and crossbones on front fender and a hula girlw with "Hawaiian Punch" on the tail) and the clear coat job on it has lots of runs and drips.  Plus, being an old man,,,, I'm just not into the "look at me" aspect of an orange bike.
I'm leaning towards the satin black.  It will be good when the zombie wars start up! I'm afraid if I get too nice of a paint job on the plastics then I'll feel like the rest of the bike should look good too.

I like my Rustoleum "High Performance" Flat Black, but have always thought a nicely done stock style red & white would look great in flat colors - especially with standard type decals (done in flat vinyl of course)

I like your "orange abomination" just the way it is. In fact, that should just be her name. The chances of coming across another like her on the street is highly unlikely. Especially with the nice lowers you have on her.

I had an rz500 which I painted with an emerald green/gunmetal scheme.(yeah I know ,the yellow reflective tape looks crap...should have gone with red or silver.... :sorry:)

Hi! I`m new in here. Anyway, I think that green color is not good for this bike. I`m restoring one FJ1100 for my friend, FJ which is dark green at the moment. Look at the pics. Ugly, isn`t? She will be painted some bright color at the end of restoration.

You're right, it's pretty bland looking.  Since I haven't found a good full time job yet, and the plastics and tank are all off for some maintenance items, I think I'm just going to go with a flat/satin black.  "Can't ever go wrong with basic black",,, at least that's what they tell me on "Crossdressingpillowbiters.com"!!!! :wacko3:

Grey runner

I painted a 3XW green with rattle cans some time ago, it will give you an idea what it could look like.

The older I get, the faster I was

i'm sure i've seen one that's flat black with silver decals on it, looks cool and i was thinking something similar if i somehow find a massive barrel of cash somewhere

Bearcat91

Yamaha Blue with some white accents!!! No joke I had a dream of a Yamaha blue FJ last night :) with YAMAHA in white on the lower fairings and on the tank...maybe a white stripe or something on the tail...
