I tried posting this earlier but it did not go through.

I have no idea how much it costs to operate this site but I can imagine its not cheap and is very time consuming. Since I have no computer skills I have no problem contributing money instead. This forum has provided me with a wealth of info and a great source of humour.
Perhaps the time has come to charge an annual user fee much like an annual subscription fee to a magazine. Those that don't want to support the site can leave and set up their own site. Good luck. With a current membership of 1884 losing a few non supporters and non contributors doesn't bother me a bit.
Let's put it in perspective. Most members probably subscribe to at least a couple of magazines or at least a newspaper. This material for the most part ends up in the recycle bin. Probably most of us also go to a bar once in a while. This, after going through the kidneys, is also lost forever. The info on this site stays and is always available. Which is the better deal?
Information is the most fundamental tool and tools cost money.     Hein.

HERE HERE! (for those that weren't brought up British that means, "Yeah!, what he said!")
Or how about this, unless there is the word "Contributor" is under your name you don't get your question answered.     Well I suppose that's a little harsh, maybe 3 free questions.

But some of us don't ask any questions.  Maybe AndyB should be on the payroll?

There are $ Contributors and there are Information Contributors.  Both are valuable to the community.

That said, as soon as I can pry the PP password from the wife unit I will be earning my new $ Contributor title.
(And paying Ritt for all the parts I just signed up for.  :-)

Hey David, I agree with you. As I stated before we contribute as we can. Some run the site, some provide info, some contribute money and some a combination of the above. I did a little survey of the membership and of the 1884 members only 148 members contributed money and 906 have never even bothered posting even once.
To me this indicates that there is no shortage of parasites using this forum and contributing nothing. I fully realize that policing the site is next to impossible and would severly increase the work load of those who already run the operation. However a small annual donation should not prove to be much of a burden on most of us.    Hein.

Shoot, the carb cleaning info alone is well worth a small admission price.

David, I did not mean to imply that you or any of the few who answer questions here are freeloaders,
quite the opposite. People login here to read your answers including me. I've been wrenching on bikes and cars for 35 years and I learn new things here all the time.
I was just trying to come up with a way to bring in more funds for Marsh.
After what you and the other gurus went through with Irishluck we should be paying you.

I didn't take offense. Since Klavdy started the thread, I just thought I would stir it up a little.  I don't feel obligated to pay, but I do feel compelled to do so for the benefit of the community as a whole.

My sticking point is I have to get the PP password from my wife, which then causes her to ask questions.  That plus the fact that I just agreed to PP a chunk of money to Rittner for some parts.  Maybe I can pass it off as a Thanksgiving/birthday present.  :-)

Ditto.  This in addition to any useful stuff I may/have put up here, for the benefits of other FJers.

However, comments that include the word "parasite" make me less willing to do so.

bludger
noun
1.   (slang) A person who avoids working , or who does not do their share of work, a loafer, a hanger on, one who does not pull one's weight, pull their weight
2.   (slang) (obsolete) A man living off the earnings of a harlot. (Reference: Sidney J. Baker, The Australian Language, second edition, 1966, chapter VI section 3, page 129, mentioning an 1882 record of this usage,)

I would much rather be a "welching slacker"

Sorry I can't help you with "bastard" although I think it's a term of endearment. An example being "You magnificent bastard"

FJMonkey, I have had little success with a pry bar with personal matters concerning the wife. Oh crap, I said it.
The wealth of information and humor is worth much more then any subscription to a rag, print or digital. I get daily updates here! I just bumped my bar out a lil more. I like having the link to see who is where.
I was, MANY Years Ago, a Bus Boy at a high end restaurant. Many servers were not willing to contribute fairly to the Bus help tip pool. We started posting the top 10 server contribution list daily. WOW, did we piss off the cheap skates. So now everyone knows who is a team member. Mothers day, busiest day of the year for dining out. Bus staff had a lock on the silver wear and if you could not get your tables reset you could not seat guests. Bus staff got all the contributors first and the others not so much. It was a show indeed.
But I digress, Kick in you cheap fuc*ers, you know who you are and you have been pointed out. Even $5 makes a difference.

Thats true. If every member contributed 5 dollars  it would equal... uhm

1906 x 5 uhm 9530.

That to me would make a huge difference and cover the costs for atleast a year or 2 Im sure?

I'm sorry; I just realized you were seeking help on the definition of the word bastatad not bastard. I can't help you with "bastarad" although I don't think it's a term of endearment. An example of its use being "Dirty Seppo bastarard Canadian" [the only known example of use as of this writing]. My feeling is that it is possibly Australian slang for "welching slacker". Contributing $$ to this site might limit the future use of both terms.
