According to Harold Camping, when someone opens the engine case of an FJ, the end of the world will happen within 7 days.

I've opened about 3 cases in my life... it's a fearful thing.

Isn't all that difficult in the gearbox really.  Just very easy to run out of hands in a hurry, and to misalign those stupid damned locating pins in the bearings.

Splitting it open and working on it is the easy part.  Getting back together and working correctly is another thing altogether!

Reminds me of a story.

Back when I was 12 at Thanksgiving my dad gave me, for the first time, the honor of carving the turkey. I spent extra time with the wet stone sharpening the small boning and large carving knives I would be using. After watching my dad over the years I knew exactly what to do.
With us at dinner was my dad's old college friend Dr. Glen Gerkins who was a well known thoracic surgeon.
After I completed carving the bird my dad said with pride, "Pat, that was done with precision, good job."
He then turned to his old friend and asked, "What do you think Glen, don't you think Pat would make a fine surgeon?"

Dr.Gerkins replied, "I don't know, let me see him put the bird back together..."

So do i mate. This is my 3rd FJ rebuild and no problem at all.  I just posted that picture 'cos a lot of people are put off before they start.
I'm still looking for 2 sets of standard FJ1100 piston rings or i will be using 2 sets of 2nd oversize ground down to fit.

  G'day FJ111200, Boats.net still have std 1100 piston ring sets available. Part # 36y-11610-01-00 @ $58.86 per set. Seems fairly expensive compared to 1200 ring sets @ $33.65 per set.   Regards, Pete.

They are not a bad price when converted to GBP, and considering standard size no longer available from Yamaha.
I've not been in touch with them yet, to see if they are genuine parts or not.
I bought some XS1100 rings from a company in the US and when they arrived they had the correct part number but were not genuine Yamaha.
A mate of mine has just put up a message on the www.fjfjrbiker.co.uk forum for me, so i'll see what happens there first.
I can't even log on to that site anymore, bad person, speaks his mind, tossers.

I'm very tempted to use the ground down 2nd oversize rings i've made. Curious to see how it goes, or is that just downright stupid?  The pdf i've got from Wiseco shows oversize rings ground down so i can't see a problem, after all it's only half a millimetre over stock that's been removed.
Anyway, continuing the scary Halloween theme, so there's still time to aquire standard rings. Anyone?

$58.00for rings , buy them in bulk, i priced them for my 1100 at the local yamaha dealer, quoted$186.0 per set, perhaps that includes the piston too
