:shout:OK, purchased a FJ 1200, 1987. Replaced all friction, metal plates and a new spring. The clutch still slips at full throttle. Going to add second spring. Yikes, why would a new clutch set slip?  :dash2:

did you soak the friction plates in oil before you assembled the clutch pack ?

Off the top of my head:

-Soaked the clutch plates before installation?
-Using OEM, not aftermarket clutch plates?
-Spring and spring seat/retainer properly installed?
-Steels not warped nor glazed?
-Not using an "energy conserving" rated oil?
-Installed clutch plates all facing the same direction?
-Clutch stack height within tolerances?
-Pushrod not bottoming out/bent?
-Pressure plate moving freely throughout travel?
-Clutch actuation (master and slave) system not overfilled?
-Return hole in master cylinder not plugged?
-Inner and outer baskets not notched?

And then there's the good reasons for clutch slip..

-Potent and fresh engine?
-Power adders?
-Definitely clutch slip rather than wheelspin?  (Great problem to have!)

Just to add to Franks comment....the longer you can soak them the better.....24 hour as a minimum, 2 or 3 days even better.

FJZ1 1200 - It'll do me just fine.
Timing has much to do with the success of a rain dance.

O.K., the good news is that it is fixed.  :dance2: The message board and RPM were great, so thanks all very much. The bad news, burned the steel and friction plates, all new, in 200 miles first time around. The fix - one more complete clutch set, new, and added the second clutch spring. Pulls hard, no slips although the tach needle moves ever so slightly when cruising, not a steady needle but I can live with that.
