Bastards in Vernal canned me, and the way they did it, I think I can't get unemployment either.  :negative: Muthafuckas. So I'm in NorCal right now looking for work.

I have a few leads on work, so it's looking promising.  :good2: Absolutely NO work in Vernal.

Want to hook up with one of the Teamster Locals either in Sac, or Santa Rosa to get back in the union.

Prefer local / home every night sort of work, but a day away every now and then would be ok as a foot-in-the-door job.

Cheers

Chris in...... ummmm purgatory...

Chris, that sucks, sorry to hear that.  Although, if you were a full time employee, and had been there a while, I can't see how it would be legal for them to keep you from filing for, and receiving unemployment.  I'm not a fan of the 'dole' per se, especially those folks that tend to make a career out of it, however unemployment insurance was put in place for a reason, and it may well be YOUR reason.  Unless you signed something to the contrary (and even then -not sure), you may be entitled to collect -despite what they may have told you.  I'm not an expert, but it's at least worth looking into.

Take it easy,

Dan

Chris,

Sorry to hear.  There are some ads for Heavy Articulated, and B-Double drivers around here, but I don't know how well they pay.  Most/many of the mines have pulled back their operations too, so that's not much help either.
I can't see why you'd not be entitled to unemploymnet as long as you'd worked there long enough, and were paying taxes, and had your green card.
Good luck to you.

You might want to check with the state unemployment agency. They have really eased up on the requirements since the first of the year.

From what I have seen nobody that put in the time is being denied, unless of course they were the "Muthafuckas" and got fired for disciplinary reasons....

They have you working as a Subbie mate?
Never mind, means you have plenty of time to come to the Rally.

It's nearly impossible to be denied unemployment in California.  Apply and fight.

Not sure if this makes a difference, but the job was in Utah, and I was on the unemployment already, for reduced hours. (Getting one day a week work isn't enough to live on) They finally fired me for 'cause' which was: "I failed to report an injury in a timely fashion." words to that effect. I violated company policy by being tardy in reporting that throwing the heavy-arsed truck tire chains gave me tennis elbow. These were the 3-rail type that go over a set of truck dual-drive tires.

After 3-4 months of attempting to deal with it myself (Dr visit, and he said to REST it for at least 10 days. Impossible to do that and keep working, my wife finally convinced me to apply for workers comp, so I could have the 10 days off, with no loss of pay and heal-up.  Shit hit the fan at work and I was fired 2-3 days later.

What they don't understand over here, is that I'm from a different culture, which is a no-whinging thing.  I don't go crying to the boss every time I stub my toe.

Two other EE's were laid-off same day, but they were for "no work" reasons. So, the Co was looking to get rid of people anyway, because of the downturn in the oil industry.

My rellies over here suggest I have a good case for unfair dismissal, or similar and are encouraging me to consult a lawyer.  Anybody around Sac suggest a good one?

Anyway, I'm hitting the road to Sac and surrounds today going door knocking on a couple possibilities.

If your tendonitis/tennis elbow is anything like mine - it's more like 10 months, not 10 days to get over it.  It may seem better if you lay off for a couple weeks and pop anti-inflammatories, but if you stress it before its 100% you get to start all over again.. hence the 10 months.  It's a very annoying injury.

I had that tennis elbow thing about 15 years ago.  Cortisone injection took care of it.    :good:

Only one minor flare up (2-3 days) since.
