Hello everyone,
I'm glad to be here. Well, a little about myself. I'm 38 years old, I have been riding since I was about 15. All Yamaha's.. Started off on a TW200, Not good for off-road or on road in my opinion, but I did have fun with it. I traded her in on a '85 Maxim-X... That bike was fun and comfortable with plenty of power. Unfortunately I also went down with that bike hard and totaled it. Still don't remember most of that summer and don't really wish to either. Once you ride it's hard not to, so I started looking and got a Radian... Very nice looking bike, nice power, I constantly had people complimenting her. But it wasn't too comfortable... Then it happened... Local Yamaha shop had a used '92 FJ1200 non-abs for sale. My Dream bike that I always wanted from the time I seen it in the brochures.. I took it for a test drive and that's all it took.. Did a trade in and she was mine.. I purchased her in '96.. It was well kept. A friend of mine ended up trading in his Virago for a '89 shortly after and we would ride no matter what the weather.. within limits.. well, lol, most of the time.. if there was no snow, or ice, and tried to avoid rain and such we were out riding.. Daytime and night time.. we had a lot of fun..

Well, life happens and I moved to be closer to work, I still rode but not as much. Then I ended up having to have multiple surgeries back in 2000 for Crohn's disease. My pride and joy sat for many years due to being on disability, not feeling well most of the time and without being able to work couldn't afford to get work done on her.. I tried starting it from time to time.. And then one day gas was leaking from the carbs really bad. Then battery died.. so it sat, and sat, and sat.. I know it's disgusting to let something like the FJ sit like that, but to be honest that's what kept me going through the years was the hope that I would be able to ride again. And no one was going to take that from me. I thought about selling it her from time to time but I knew if I did that I would never ride again. Life without riding is well... Boring.. lol..

Jump ahead to now.. Still on disability but doing better.. trying to get health back in order to head back to work, really miss it a lot. So I got a battery off of EBay and put it in.. of course I had drained gas tank and put fresh fuel in.. Tried starting and started getting a little worried because I didn't hear the fuel pump run.. Found out I had the petcock on the fuel tank turned off from when I worked on it before long ago.. still didn't seem like it was getting gas.. so I ran a line from the gas tank into the fuel pump and heard it run, no problem.. Glad I didn't damage it running it with no fuel. But then after trying a few times I seen gas pouring from the carbs..
I also have been in contact with Randy from RPM racing.. Great guy and very helpful.. I have the carbs off the bike and had printed out the Carb cleaning and disassembly guide on here, which is very helpful along with my Clymer manual.. So going to finish taking them apart and cleaning them so that they are ready for the new parts are ordered from Randy.. Then I will go from there and see what I need and what else need to be done..

Sorry for the long post but the FJ is a big part of my life.. She helped me out during some rough times by just getting out and going for a ride.. Anyway, glad to be here and thanks for listening.. (popcorn) :morning1:

Welcome Chris.

Nice intro.

Dave' carb cleaning instructions, Randy for parts, sounds like you're well on your way to getting it running.

Also, look for Andy's recent posts on doing the carbs, with pictures, circles arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one [was], to be used as evidence against us...

Last point, you will likely need to change the oil.  It's likely fuel laden.

Again, welcome, you've come to the right place.

Welcome, Chris!      :good:

Welcome Chris!
My experience has a few parallels with yours. I had a 86' Radian I bought new, loved that little bike! I'm 5'7" so I fit the Radian very well. Most of my bikes have been air cooled Yamahas, very tough to beat em. I have a riding buddy that has Crohn's, I have a pretty good idea how tough it is to deal with, don't give up looking for improvements in treatment. Bob is doing very well these days with dealing with it. Indeed, you have found a very helpful bunch of folks here!  :good:                                                                                                 Kookaloo, ya'all,

Welcome, Chris.  Nice intro.  I had similar situation with the FJ and surgeries too.  Mine sat for about 7 yrs total.  I now have mine to pretty prime shape (except for the usual plugged pilot jets battle).  Hang here and you won't get steered wrong.

And I have your oil, too.  Amsoil, that is!  Drop me a note, I'll set you up.

Thank You everyone for the warm welcome. I will try to keep everyone updated. When the time comes to ride is there anyone around the N.E. Ohio area by chance ?

I forgot to add in my post that I had installed a Cobra F1s exhaust before the FJ got "stored" I also put in a K&N.
I do have a question, although with the wealth of info on here I could probably find what i'm looking for.. What tires is eveyone using now ? I even forget what I have installed on mine.

Welcome Chris, I too have a '92 non ABS. A very nice fast comfortable bike.

Isn't it amazing how a piece of machinery, sitting forlorn in a garage... will promote and accelerate human recovery?

I know EXACTLY what you're talking about!  Cheers  Pat

Ha! i forgot about the whine.. I would go out in the garage and open the gas cap to relieve the pressure.. Then just got used to it.. My friend and I would kid that she's whining because she wants needs to be on the road..
