1986 fj 1200 exhaust

i have a vance and hines super sport on my bike now! id like to know if exhaust from a newer fj 1200 would fit because id like to put a vance and hines ssr2 exhaust but they dont make it for mine! or is there any others out yhere for my bike with a stainless header pipe!

muffler mounts differently, depending on the aftermarket muffler you would either move the bracket thats on the muffler or you would need to fab a bracket on the bike.

Thanks fred! Would you have any suggestions on a exhaust? I hate having to yank the exhaust off for oil changes!

I would go with stock header pipes and collector, and mount a couple of these supertrapp slipons. You would have to fab up a couple of pipes, but any muffler shop should be able to bend something up for you. Then you have no probs with oil changes and chin fairings fitting. The stock header pipes are stainless, and buff up real nice.

Hey Jeff, here's a alternative to Jake's idea.

Rather than spending $ 264 per slipon (x 2) or $528, and driving around looking for connector pipes along with sweating over buffing your SS header tubes, why not do it right?

Spend $459 for a honest to God D&D header (black) or  $549 for a chrome header. D&D is a split Y design so you have access to your oil drain plug. These are very well built headers.

Yes, before you ask, this will fit your '86 although it is listed as a '92+ header.
With D&D's the muffler clamp slides on the can to adjust to your  mounting location.

I have always been told D&D are the worst pipes made, and the performance numbers are worse then factory pipes.
I dont know this for a fact but this is what i have been told.

The complaint for D&D is usually that they are very loud.  The workmanship is comparable to, if not better than, V&H, which I had on my FJ before the D&D.  Performance numbers are definitely better than stock, no question, and they're also better than V&H.

They also offer a 'quiet' can, which is what I recently ordered to replace the normal, obnoxiously loud can that I had destroyed.  The quiet can uses steel wool so it will last longer than the regular packing.

The tech gave me the advice of taking the bike out and getting the new pipes good and hot, then come back, let the pipes cool off, and put another coat of high temp black enamel on them.  I wish I had done that because the pipes are pretty corroded.
