Air Intake

Gents,

I need air intake boots #1 and #4 for the FJ, both have splits in them.  I notice on boats.net that they are around $40 each, plus postage to Australia.

I also notice on Randy's site the the Uni pod filters are $24, x 2.

I am obtaining a 4-1 exhaust (Viper, from SandyBikeSpares).  Will I benefit from using the Uni filters, and what rejetting issues will I have?

Intake boots between head and carbs, I'm guessing?  If they're broke, fixxem, yes, but that's notsomuch a question.

Pods are easier to work on than an airbox and you'll gain a pinch of power.  More air in, more air out, more power in the middle, yes?  Rejetting shouldn't be difficult, either directly purchase about two sets of jets to facilitate dialing it in (120 and 122 mains, 40 and 42 pilots, most likely), some small washers to shim the needles, and carry on.  Fuel economy may drop a bit, such is the price of power.

Searching this forum should provide you several places that have additional information on the subject of rejetting for that type of combination.

Are you talking about the boots between the carb and airbox or the manifolds between the head and the carbs.

If its between the carb and airbox, then put the dual pods on fersure.  They do cost a little bit of torque (on mine anyhow) but the intake honk is beautiful :-)  They also make working on the carbs much easier and provide you with another storage space.

I don't know how much free'er the pipe you're putting on is than my pipeline slip-ons, but I found that I had to raise the needles 1 groove and go up to a 115 main jet.  YMMV.

Yes, the ones between airbox and carbs.
I currently have a Dynojet kit installed.

BTW, I used to have a pipeline system on a Triple I used to own.  Excellent product.

bill,it's going back a while now but you may recall contacting me requesting pics of the very exhaust I've got and the one you are purchasing. May I offer my sincere apologies for not getting back to you at the time,my 'excuse' being that a while had passed between your request and me actually becoming aware of it - I figured you'd have gone ahead with the purchase so any response would have been pretty pointless by then! Anyway I hope you are/will be as happy with the exhaust as I am,some 16 months after I bought mine. I can't help with your question here,sorry,as I'm running stock jetting,airbox,everything. I'm so pleased with how it runs that I've never felt the need to tinker.

Jack, no problems.  I recently had a look at the PM you sent me at the time, and have decided to stick with the OEM airbox and intakes, based on your excellent assessment of your setup.  I  ordered the replacement air intake parts and the exhaust last night.
