So i took out my plugs to change today...as well as oil change, chain maintenance exc...the right plug (if sitting on the bike) had the ground electrode on the plug pushed so far shut there was no gap  maybe p/o mistake? or is something wrong in my engine? put new plugs in and runs better but just worried my piston tapped it closed...ideas?

Dropping the plug on the floor will do that too.

If you put the new one in and didn't immediately hear expensive sounding noises, I'd wager that it was pretty well closed when it was put in before.  There's a tiny chance the motor was massively overreved, but if there was damage you'd know by now.  Carry on, check it shortly if you're paranoid.

Thinking of it, it's also possible that it was the wrong plug (too much reach)?  That should have been immediately obvious, though.

Maybe it was missing the washer that comes on it?  Even that shouldn't be enough to reach the pistion though, I suppose.

Could you see anything on the piston by looking down the open spark plug hole with a good flashlight?
Do not argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

well i took it around the block and it does great...no noises. old plugs were dry and tan so thats good news. the ungapped one was still firing but probably intermitainly.. it is a bit smoother and faster so it was an issue...i used royal purple 15w40 with my new spin on filter adapter(thanks randy at rpm)...it works and looks flawless :good2:

Speaking of which, anyone heard from 'Biothumper'?  The above was his last post, a month ago.  I know not every one spends any real time here, but I do wonder.

I once mused over over on the yahoo site about someone chiming in saying "hey I just tried this new, never tried before -suspension mod..."  and that's his last post.  Or possibly, 'I'm a new rider and I just bought an FJ...'  Who the hell knows what happened to them after that.

Mostly because I got all preachy/ fatherly with him, I have been looking for any sign of him, just to reassure myself he was OK, and nothing. hmmmmm.

Oh to hear what that was like...

"Yeah man, the best test of new tires is going full throttle when you're leaned over!"

"Oh, I absolutely use racing fuel.  Trick is to put it in with the oil so it gets to the cylinders faster."

"How bad can a Thai hooker be?  I mean, she looked young enough to be low-mileage, right?"

"No, go ahead and sell it.  Suzuki's are so much easier to work on."
